I was blog hopping this morning, when I saw Carrie’s post about a virtual marathon. I was intrigued, so I followed the link to Neil’s blog where the Virtual Marathon challenge was posted.
The deal is, you have to commit to running the entire distance of a marathon, either all at once, or cumulatively during the 2 weeks prior (starting on April 17th) and running at least 1k of it on May 1st and report back.
Well, with a starting date of April 17th, I could use the mileage I’ve already racked up on the elliptical (too bad it didn’t start on the 16th, cuz that would have been another 6.5 miles on the tally!).
So, I commented on Neil’s post to see if it was too late to join in. Within minutes, he had emailed me back saying of course I could join. So, I am.
Here’s what I’ve done so far…
04/17/11- Sunday’s are my day off from exercise, so I did nothing.
04/18/11- 6.5 miles (check out the video here)
04/19/11- 2.9 miles (see my tweet here)
04/20/11- 5.5 miles (my tweet recorded only the time/calories, but it was 5.5 miles)
So, that is 14.9 miles of 26.2 mile distance. I have until May 1st to complete the remaining 11.3 miles. I have to do 1K (0.62 miles) on May 1st.
Have you ever done a virtual race?
I have never done one and never would have thought about it, but it sounds like a ton of fun. Maybe I will see if I can join in although I would really have to book it to catch up!
That sounds interesting.
