Instagram is quickly becoming the social network where people post their photos first and then share them out to Facebook and Twitter. Initially, Instagram was an iPhone only app and was used primarily for the photo editing part of the software. It quickly became a way for people to like and comment on photos, thus creating a new social community. To reach an even bigger audience than your friends and family, you need to use hashtags, a way to group conversations together, on your images. For those that are travelers, or travel bloggers, a real Instagram post maker is using a consistent logo and the most current travel hashtags. Here are the Top Travel Hashtags for IG.
Always remember that the hashtag has to be valid in order to use it or you will quickly lose the respect of those on IG. For instance, if you are out camping it might not be wise to use #luxuryhotel unless you are in one seriously awesome tent with a butler and everything and then you might want to try the hashtag #glamping. Be true to your hashtags and they will work wonders for you.
In your description, keep the hashtags to less than three. These are ones that when you share to Twitter are searchable there. If you post more than three, go ahead and put those in the comments so that they are more evergreen. If you have a lot of pics on IG, make it a goal to go back and add hashtags on old photos and then sit back and watch them get picked up in searches again.
