My kids love the Berenstain Bears and they love to read (or be read to), so when we received the opportunity to review The Berenstain Bears Thanksgiving Blessings we said yes, even though we received it after Thanksgiving. After all, lessons on being thankful are best served year round, right?
In The Berenstain Bears Thanksgiving Blessings readers ride along with the Bear family on Thanksgiving Day as they travel to Grizzly Gran and Gramps’ house for a feast. As they go, they learn about what they can be thankful for, like faith, family, and all the food waiting for them at Gramp’s and Gran’s when they get there.
Papa Bear tells the history of how the Europeans first came to America and why they came, and talks about being thankful for work and play. In true Berenstain Bears fashion, the book is cutely illustrated. It also uses ecerpts of the song, “Over the River and Through the Woods” by Lydia Child.
This book is more of an explanation of blessings to be thankful for, than a story. Even still, it is a classic and already loved by my kids.
