I mentioned before that my kids love the Berenstain Bears. They were thrilled when I was able to review The Berenstain Bears Thanksgiving Blessings a few weeks ago, so I agreed to review The Berenstain Bears God Made You Special.
Quick Overview (from Zondervan):
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
I teach my kids that everyone is unique in their own way, and that our differences are what make the world a special place. I think it’s important to teach them to appreciate diversity and celebrate what makes us special. In this story, Tommy acts younger than his age. My kids immediately related this to a cousin that also acts younger than his age. We’ve taught them that it’s okay to ask questions about people’s differences, but that it must be done in a way that will not hurt the one that is different. They really appreciated that Mrs. Bruin explained things to them when Sister asked, much as I do when they ask me questions.
I think this book is a great way to reiterate that God makes all kinds of people, and we’re all special in His eyes.
