Our family has been reading The Sparkle Box every year since 2012! It has become one of our favorite Christmas traditions. Last year I realized that the silver folding cardstock box it came with had seen it’s share of wear and tear. We did a Sparkle Box Craft to go with The Sparkle Box book. Our kids created their own glittered boxes for this beloved Christmas tradition. They absolutely loved the sparkle box craftivity, and I am certain it’s something they will treasure for a long time. I thought I’d share it with you, so you can make your own.
The Sparkle Box
When I ask my kids what their favorite Christmas traditions are, inevitably two things make the top of the list. First is the cinnamon roll Christmas tree that I make for Christmas breakfast.
Second is The Sparkle Box. As you can see in my The Sparkle Box Review, our family started The Sparkle Box tradition in 2012. This really is such a sweet book (it makes me cry every time) that teaches the importance of giving.

To make your Sparkle Box Craft, you’re going to need the following:

- unfinished wood trinket box (about 3 inch x 3 inch x 2 inch)
- silver craft paint
- silver craft glitter
- paper plates
- Mod Podge
- Foam Paint Brushes
- Craft Trays

Pro Tip – Just go ahead and get the big pack of foam paint brushes. After dipping them in Mod Podge and having glitter on them, you’re going to want to just toss them. Cleaning them is no fun. Trust me.
Sparkle Box Craft Instructions
- Paint the outside of both the base and the lid of the trinket box with the silver craft paint and allow it to dry. You *may* want to remove the lid first. We *may* have learned the hard way.
- While waiting for your paint to dry, pour silver craft glitter onto a paper plate.
- Once the paint is dry, use a foam paint brush to spread Mod Podge over one side of the trinket box.
- Dip the Mod Podge’d side into the plate of silver glitter. Lift and tap off excess glitter.
- Repeat for each side of the trinket box and lid, remembering to tap off excess glitter.
- After the trinket box and lid have been glittered and dried, apply the first top coat of Mod Podge and allow to dry.
- Apply a second top coat of Mod Podge and allow to dry.
- Replace your glittered lid to the trinket box.
