Riding in the car with kids can be somewhat tedious. While it’s easy enough to get them situated, buckled up and ready to go, they tend to get bored while sitting there. It seems like we’re on the road a lot recently, with swim practice, tutoring, church, etc, etc, etc. Which means boredom hits quickly, and when boredom sets in, they get snarly. Lately, I’ve been using kids audiobooks and cd’s to redeem car time with the kids.

Educational Options
With today’s advanced technology there’s no reason to have lost brain power time. While in the car with my kids I can put on the Adventures in Odyssey Up in the Air CD (AIO #63), from Focus on the Family, so that they can go on an educational journey while we drive down the road. I love that Adventures in Odyssey reinforces the meaning of true friendship and integrity in these six adventure filled episodes! My favorite story in this one is “Have A Heart”. That lizard is hilarious. My kids argue that the “Find A Penny” is the best because of the adventure involved. No matter, we are in the car enough we each get to listen to our favorite repeatedly.
Using Brain Power
Using audiobooks and CD’s to redeem car time with kids helps parents feel confident that their kids are using the time wisely. The kids aren’t sitting there drifting off into space. They are thinking as they hear the audible words.

Occupying your kid’s minds with audiobooks and CD’s in the car is teaching them future habits of redeeming their time. It’s up to us to teach kids to use their time wisely. Time is one thing we cannot get back.
