If you’re anything like me, you have people on your list for Christmas that have everything they could possible want or need, and they make gift giving a bit more difficult than those who have a list ready. Might I suggest for any of the women on your list that fall into that category the One Thousand Gifts Devotional from Zondervan?
The One Thousand Gifts Devotional has sixty devotions that are inspired by One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp, a New York Times bestseller. Each devotion includes a daily Scripture and prayer, and is an open invitation to explore the concept of grace explored in her book and on her blog. There is a special section at the back of the book that gives room to record your own thoughts of gratitude– your one thousand gifts.
This is an inspirational devotional and journal that is both heartwarming and uplifting. I haven’t read the book that inspired the devotional, but I am adding it to the list of books that I want to add to my stack. In the One Thousand Gifts Devotional, Ann Voskamp has a way of drawing the reader in and challenging them, even as you can feel she challenged herself.
Perhaps my favorite of the devotions is Devotion 10, Recognizing Grace. In it, Ann writes, “Emergencies are sudden, unexpected events–but is anything under the sun unexpected to God?… Life is not an emergency.”
Wow. Just wow. In the frantic pace that is the holiday season, that reached across the page and grabbed me by the shirt and shook me a bit. Life is not an emergency. Deep breath.
Later in the same devotion, she writes, “Life is dessert–too brief to hurry.”
What a reminder to slow down. To savor the moment. To be still.
I think the One Thousand Gifts Devotional would be a great gift for any woman on your list.
