So, it’s summer time. It’s the time of the year that I simultaneously look forward to and dread because my older kids are off school. Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE having them home with me during the summer! But…they get so bored without the constant structure and social interactions that come with school, and that in and of itself is a major drag. I find myself constantly looking for activities and things that can help occupy their minds and energy, even for just an hour or so each day. In line with this theme of “how do I keep my kids occupied and having fun during summer vacation?”, I will be reviewing several products in the coming weeks that are helping us beat the summer doldrums.
First up: The Moxie Girlz Creative Me doll. I got this doll with my oldest daughter in mind. She is my “color on the walls to experience the difference in textures and mediums” kid. Rabbit trail: no joke- several years ago I walked upstairs (because it was too silent) and found that she had drawn on the textured plaster walls in the hallway because the “texture looked interesting to experience”. Are you kidding me?! We put that kid in art classes asap so that she could “experience textures” in a productive way!
Anyway. The Creative Me doll is great for the creative kid who just likes to design, experiment, and create a masterpiece with their toys. She comes with clothing that is, essentially, a blank canvas for the child artist to create on using the provided fabric marker and stickers. The stickers didn’t stick to the fabric all that well, but we didn’t expect them to. The fabric marker washes out with warm water and a cloth, so the creative aspect of decorating this doll doesn’t just stop after one use. Cha-ching!
