One of the exciting things about Jesus, that I try to teach my children, is that He met the needs that were before him. From the healing the lame, raising the dead, and feeding the hungry, they all point to God’s love for his people, and demonstrate Jesus compassion on humanity. These miracles are beautifully retold for children in Miracles of Jesus by David Miles.
The Miracles of Jesus by David Miles is a level two I Can Read! retelling of three miracles performed by Jesus, as told in the Bible. It includes the healing of Jairus’ daughter, the healing of the sick woman, and the feeding of the 5,000. It is part of the ZonderKidz I Can Read! series based on the bestselling NIV Adventure Bible.
This story teachers about God’s love for all people and how Jesus comforts many. The vocabulary and content is geared toward more advanced readers and is appropriate for kids almost ready or ready for chapter books.
Miracle of Jesus is a level two I Can Read! based on the NIV Adventure Bible. In it, young readers read about how great God’s love is for all people. At this read-alone level, newly independent readers follow Jesus as he travels, spreading the Good News of his Father’s love. Along the way, Jesus shows in wondrous ways just how powerful God’s love is when he brings health back to a young girl and a long-suffering woman, and how he gives comfort to thousands of believers with a delicious meal as well as the precious word of God. The content is Common Core aligned for informational reading.
Mister easily relates to the stories of healing in the Bible, especially since he received healing from a peanut allergy. He personally prayed every night for nearly three years for that healing, in the simple words of a child, “Jesus, take away my peanut allergy so I can have peanut butter.” He is quick to tell people that he knows that God answers prayers because He answered his. He enjoyed reading this story, liked the illustrations, and connected easily to the story. He did have to have help pronouncing Jairus name, but otherwise read it independently. He just turned 7, but is an advanced reader.
I certainly recommend this book.
