I recently stumbled upon this post, by A Sweet Pea Chef, and immediately started thinking about making my own pumpkin frozen yogurt.
Admit it, now you want some!
Then I thought about the lemon-lemon frozen yogurt that the local food truck guy was out of when he brought our delivery order two weeks ago. Then I remembered a coconut avocado ice cream recipe that I ran across a few months ago (man, I hope I bookmarked it) and the frozen fantasy was on!
Problem is, we didn’t own an ice cream maker.
<—I do own this, however!
My KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer.
In cobalt blue, no less.
I love my KitchenAid mixer.
We received it as a wedding gift (Thanks, Uncle Tom and Aunt Jenny!), and it has been well used loved over the last (almost) six years. At some point, Hubs bought the mixer attachment pack for me (I don’t recall the occasion) and I have used it for everything.
LITERALLY.
From making cakes, to making baby food (with the fruit/vegetable strainer attachment), to grinding chicken (with the food grinder attachment) for chicken soft tacos. Don’t ask me about the time that I processed fourteen large pumpkins with it. My mixer gets it work out.
So, when I started thinking about an ice cream maker, I thought, “there has to be an attachment for that.” I cannot afford to surrender anymore counter space to small kitchen appliances! My mantra is, “find the attachment for it.” So, I started shopping (on Amazon) for an ice cream maker attachment.
When I found one, I tweeted about it. A friend tweeted back, “@thatbaldchick I have one of the #icecreammaker attachments they are AWESOME! esp. for avoiding food allergies!”
That’s it. I knew I had to have one.
Mister has a peanut allergy, and you wouldn’t believe all the treats we have to forego because of it!
Problem was, every listing I saw, of the ice cream maker attachment, showed the picture of the lift stand mixer rather than the tilt head mixer that I own. Hubs saw my frustration and told me to just start shopping for a separate appliance, but my mother-in-law suggested that I check the owner’s manual to see if the attachment was compatible with my mixer.
Why didn’t I think of that?
Of course, since my mixer is nearly six years old, my owner’s manual is in the basement somewhere, in a box full of owner’s manuals. Slim chance I am going to find it. Even slimmer still, since I don’t want to go near that box! LOL. So, I did what any other internet savvy shopper would do. I went to the KitchenAid website. After perusing the owner’s manual for my mixer, I checked out the owner’s manual for the actual ice cream maker attachment. YIPPEE! It is approved for use with ALL Kitchenaid stand mixers.
So, I jumped back on Amazon and bought one. I used part of my Total Gym Total Mom prize money for it. And now I am thinking of all the yummolicious frozen treats I can make once it comes in.
Kind of ironic, right?
That I ordered an ice cream maker with money I won for getting into shape?
I don’t feel guilty, though, because I will be making frozen yogurt! Ha!
Do you make your own ice cream or frozen yogurt?
Have any yummolicious (or strange) recipes you want to share?

Fun! I want to buy attachments for my mixer but the tilt head doesn’t lock. I am saving up for the professional series before getting add-ons.
Virginia says
Oooh! When you get the professional one, I want to hear ALL about it!

Just one more reason I NEED a mixer!

We have a big ice cream maker that I hate to lug out, so we haven’t made ice cream or frozen yogurt in a while. But I would love to have a KitchenAid Stand mixer. And, no you shouldn’t feel guilty! 🙂

I so wish I had grabbed my Moms old KitchenAid mixer – my brother bought her house and I forgot the mixer was in the bottom cabinet. That thing was very old but a workhourse!
The ice cream (or yogurt) sounds good, and it is amazing you can make it in a mixer!

The irony is funny. Don’t blame you one teeny bit though..it looks great.
