It’s August, y’all! AUGUST! Where on earth did the year go? If you’re anything like me, your head is spinning with back-to-school shopping and plans for the fall. It seems impossible, to me, that I should be back-to-school shopping already. Didn’t we just finish the school year?
I mean, how on earth is she starting first grade? See that sass? Let me remind you (and her) that she’s six, not sixteen! I did the bulk of Sister’s back-to-school clothes shopping at Gymboree. I like Gymboree clothing for Sister for several reasons, not the least of which is that she’s boycotting blue jeans (for two years now) and Gymboree offers adorable leggings that my girl will wear. The quality never disappoints, their coordinates are always cute, and best of all– Gymboree clothing is age appropriate!
This year, our back-to-school shopping also included a long list of art supplies– paint, crayons, markers, scissors, pens, art paper, glue, and more– since Sister is taking an art class in our homeschool co-op and both older kids are doing art class at home. As a teacher, there is nothing quite like fresh new art supplies to make me smile. I believe that creativity is essential to learning. My artsy daughter couldn’t agree more.
We often volunteer with the under-privileged through a community food pantry, and I know all too well that many children don’t have access to basic tools like crayons, markers and paint. Their parents have a hard time making ends meet and putting food on the table, let alone buying crayons. That’s why I got excited when I learned about the Gymboree’s Let’s Color Together project. What’s that, you ask? This year, to celebrate childhood and back-to-school, Gymboree is teaming up with DonorsChoose.org to bring coloring supplies to students nationwide through 9/7!
Hooray, right? The money donated goes to projects in the highest-need schools in the donor’s community that has the least amount of time remaining before the project request expires. Even $1 supplies a child with a pack of crayons for the year. Gymboree aims to fulfill at least one classroom request in every county where there is a Gymboree retail location. You can get involved by donating at Gymboree stores, Gymboree outlet stores, and online.
Add that to the long list of reasons we love Gymboree!
Donate today to a school in your community, and help give kids a brighter future.
