That’s it. I had to put my foot down. Now that Summer is here, and we’ve finished our curriculum for the year, my kids tried to develop a case of summer amnesia and forget the things that they are required to do every day. They’d rather curl up on the couch and gorge themselves on videos and video games than to go play outside. It’s not happening on my watch! So I made a list of Summer Rules and posted in plain view. Don’t bother picking up the remote, kiddos, unless the list is complete.
And now that we’re a few weeks into it, I keep hearing “but there’s nothing to do” when I tell my kids to go play outside. I get it. One can only do so much with a basketball, a soccer ball, huge backyard… so since there is “NOTHING to do” I’ve been looking for a few outdoor games and toys to add to our backyard. Here’s a few of the things I’m considering…
These Animal Happy Hoppers would be a lot of fun for races, right? With a max weight of 150lbs, even the neighbor kid can join in.
What kids don’t like a good game of Tug of War? If I add a little mini pool in the middle, it could be a splashin good time!
A 6ft parachute and a few beach balls for ball toss. We have the beach balls, which I snagged from Oriental Trading last year along with a bunch of luau supplies. I do quite a lot of shopping on the site because they have a lot of fun stuff!
A bean bag toss game. The patriotic one is super cute, but I also love the ice cream cone one that they have!
With so many fun outdoor games and toys to choose from, I just have to narrow down my list.
In the meantime, as my Mom always said, “GO PLAY OUTSIDE!”
Oh, and in case your wondering what’s on the Chore List that they can work on to earn extra screen time, here’s what I made.
Happy Summer!!
Special thanks to Oriental Trading for making this post possible. All opinions are my own.
