Are you ready for it? No, I’m not talking about Spring. Or Easter, for that matter. While both of those are fast approaching– seriously, wasn’t it just December?– what we are in the middle of now is cold and flu season. Since my kids all like to share everything one round of a stomach bug can last upward of ten days around here. Sharing is caring, right? My kids recently shared a round of stomach bug that kept me busy for two weeks. TWO WEEKS!! Speaking of sharing, I thought I’d share with you what I keep on hand for when I’m elbows deep in puke or poop. Cuz, ya know it just might happen to you.
Keeping these things on hand just may save your sanity when you’re stuck with no way to the store to get last minute supplies.
Flu Survival Kit for Kids
- Puke Bucket – these are super cheap at the dollar store and can be tossed out after the round of germs bids goodbye. Plus, each kid can have their own color.
- Thermometer – stomach bugs are often accompanied by fever and you’ll want to know when to give your kids a fever reducer.
- Pain Reliever/Fever Reducer – This is important to have on hand in case your child has fever or body aches with their stomach bug.
- Pedialyte – Pedialyte is the #1 pediatrician-recommended oral electrolyte solution because it has the optimal balance of sugar and sodium to prevent dehydration due to vomiting and diarrhea in both children and adults. Yes… Adults, too! Pedialyte is available in liquid, powder packs and freezer pops, making it easy to rehydrate at home or on the go. I prefer the Pedialyte Powder Packs because 1) they take up less space in the cabinet, 2) I can carry them in my purse, and 3) flavor variety
- Lip Balm – Fever and puking often results in dry lips.
- Pocket Tissues – not sure about yours, but if my kids are puking they are also crying. Giving them fun pocket tissues makes them smile and keeps their germy hands off my big box of facial tissues.
- Bottled Water – let’s face it, kids don’t always wait until you get home to feel crummy. A powder pack of Pedialyte and a bottle of water in my purse ensure I can keep them hydrated on the move.
It’s easy to find Pedialyte in the baby section at Walmart. My Walmart has the Pedialyte on the outside aisle, so you can’t miss it.
Don’t have Pedialyte on hand? Right now you can save $2 on Pedialyte Powder Packs
