In years past, it's always annoyed me that I get so few pictures when we go to the waterpark or pool. I was delighted, then, when I recently received an opportunity to review the CaliCase. The CaliCase is a floating waterproof phone case and it's pretty cool.
Floating Waterproof Phone Case
I won't lie. The idea of using one of our phones in or near water made me a little nervous. We buy our phones outright, and we don't have insurance on them. Thanks to my youngest daughter once submerging my phone in the toilet, I KNOW that like oil and water, cell phones and water don't mix. Not being able to use my phone while we're in the hot tub or at the waterpark is seriously annoying, though. Especially because my phone always rings or the alarm always goes off when I'm in the water. So, if I want to take the call or turn off the alarm, I have to get out of the water.
So, I was intrigued by the CaliCase. It's touted as a must-have piece of gear for the beach or pool, and claims to keep your smartphone safe at all times. Will this waterproof phone pouch prove to be on the top of my list of beach and pool essentials?
Waterproof Test of the CaliCase with Tissues
When the CaliCase phone pouch arrived, I knew I needed to do a waterproof test. But how could I waterproof test it without putting the phone IN it? I mean, I didn't want to risk the phone if it didn't work. So, I put two facial tissues in the case, sealed it, and went out to our hot tub.
I was pleased to see that the CaliCase passed the waterproof test with the tissues. Now I just needed to test it with a phone. After I showed him the video of the waterproof tissue test, my husband graciously agreed to let me use his phone, since I needed my phone to record the video. His phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5. Mine is a Samsung Galaxy S7, so it has better video quality. If we have to replace one, we'd rather it be his. LOL
I place his cell phone, including his OtterBox, in the CaliCase and sealed it. Back out to the hot tub I went to waterproof test the CaliCase with my husband's phone in it.
I was a little nervous. After all, nothing lost if it had failed with the tissues. But I'd have to replace his phone if I ruined it. I was delighted, then, when the CaliCase passed the waterproof test with my husband's phone in it.
Who Should Get a CaliCase?
Would it be preposterous to say everyone? I already know what you’re thinking: but wait a minute, I’ve spent a lot of money on a shockproof/waterproof smartphone, what would I need a waterproof phone pouch for? Even if your smart phone is newer (and nicer) than ours and has an impressive IP water/dust resistance rating, an extra layer of protection never hurts. If you're using your smartphone at the beach or pool with your family, and extra layer of protection is peace of mind.
With the clear windows on the front and back, the CaliCase, you can even take pictures and videos of your family outing while underwater. Then, when you look back at those images, it brings all of the special moments and memories to life. CaliCase enables you to captures memories on your smartphone when your near, or even in, the water. It's great for float trips, trips to the beach, adventure rides, pool parties, and in the hot tub.
You can use the included lanyard to keep your phone around your neck at all times. And since the CaliCase is buoyant, you don't have to worry about your phone sinking to the bottom of the pool or river! It might float away if you don't keep hold of the lanyard, though. CaliCase is designed to keep your smartphone safe both in fresh and saltwater. It is made of high quality, durable, dual-layered PVC plastic. CaliCase is even certified to be used up to 100 feet underwater, due to its dual-padded design which allows it to resist water pressure. An underwater phone case is pretty cool! The CaliCase features a magnetic seal and latch to keep your valuables (you can use it for other things than your smartphone obviously), and its IPX8 water and dust rating is more than enough for casual Indiana Jones types.
Even if you don't buy your phones outright, or you do carry insurance on your phone, think of CaliCase as the life insurance for your smartphone. You don't want to risk losing the images or data that is on your phone.
