I received free products in order to host the LeapFrog and CLIF Kid sponsored MommyParty. The opinions expressed here are my own.
You’ve heard me talk about it before: fitness and nutrition. It’s become so important to me and my husband, because not only do we want to feel good about ourselves, but we want to encourage our children to be active and make healthy food choices as well. There is no substitution for kids seeing a positive example of a healthy lifestyle from their parents, but it’s amazing to have products available to help parents encourage health in their kids! Specifically, I want to talk about two products today: the LeapFrog LeapBand and CLIF Kids protein bars.
My family was chosen to participate in the #FitMadeFun Day sponsored by these two companies on September 6, 2014. We wanted to make this as memorable an experience as we could, so we invited some friends to tag along on our activity-filled day! On the agenda: a big play date that included an hour’s worth of activities (as dictated by the LeapBands and CLIF Kids 60 Minutes of Motion cards) designed to get kids’ heart rates up and get them moving for the purpose of fitness, and healthy snack options to help us reinforce that fitness isn’t just about moving around, but is also about what we eat! Overall we had an amazing day, although the party had to be moved inside because of rain, which also led to some friends not being able to make it over. Oh, well…
The first thing that we did to get the party rolling was to set up the LeapBands. These are really genius little contraptions that track activity and heart rate much the same way that traditional adult activity trackers do, but instead of simply showing heart rate or distance traveled, the LeapBand is equipped with an animal character that kids “earn” food to feed. The more active they are, the more well-cared for their “pet” is, and the more characters they are able to unlock. This product really combines the best of activity trackers and video games, which rocks! Set-up through LeapFrog.com was simple and easy, and now my kids’ activity on any given day syncs straight up to my laptop, which is cool. I also have the option of loading (and adjusting) a set of activities that the band will tell my kids to do during their “workout” (and by workout I mean active play), which is a nice feature. These bands were easy for my kids to use, as well, which is obviously a must for a product marketed for children (ages 4-7).
Once the bands were set up, we got started movin’ and groovin’! It was a blast! The LeapBand is equipped with a set of activities that the character on the screen will tell kids to do to encourage movement, but we also had at our disposal 60 Minutes of Motion Cards, provided by CLIF Kids. These cards are a combination of 25 motion, activity, and adventure cards that encourage physical activity and include everything from jumping jacks to planks and games. Between the two resources, we definitely kept moving for at least an hour (and my kids had unlocked several “pets” each on their LeapBands)!
Finally, we stopped for a healthy snack. Aside from the traditional fruit and veggies, we provided a variety of CLIF Kids Zbar Protein. You are going to know why I loves these bars right now: they’re made with 70% organic ingredients, contain no high-fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oils, and are FULL of vitamins and nutrients like vitamin D (good for heart health!), iron, zinc, calcium, and protein (5g). Not only that, but my kids loved them. They had no clue they were eating a health food (and neither did their friends!). CLIF Kids Zbar Protein comes in three flavors: chocolate chip, peanut butter chocolate, and mint chocolate. As it stands, chocolate chip and mint chocolate are the heavy favorites around here!
I would highly recommend the LeapBand to ANY parent who wanted to provide their kids with a fun way to be active, and I will personally continue to purchase CLIF Kids bars for my kids to eat as snacks!
