Faith and Science Devotionals for Kids by Louie Giglio

Faith and Science Devotionals for Kids by Louie Giglio

A few years ago, I started incorporating a short devotional and worship time to our morning gather time. It was around this time that I first discovered Indescribable Kids faith and science devotionals for kids by Louie Giglio. A friend recommended the first one of the series, Indescribable. We already own quite a few kids devotionals, but bought it anyway and we absolutely loved it. Last year, I purchased the second book in the series, How Great is our God. I was really excited, then, when I heard that a third book of devotions for children, The Wonder of Creation, was being released. I was even more excited when I received an opportunity to review it from Tommy Nelson!

Faith and Science Devotionals for Kids by Louie Giglio

As I said, at present, there are three devotionals in the series and they are Indescribable, How Great is our God, and The Wonder of Creation. Each devotional book is a collection of 100 devotions about God and science. Each devotional has a note from Pastor Louie with a quick guide to the major topics covered, including Space, Earth, Animals, and People. This quick list is great for focusing on one aspect of creation.

INDESCRIBABLE

Indescribable displays the majesty of creation with scientific findings, photography, and original illustrations. These 100 devotions encourage awe at God’s creativity with devotions about space – learn all about Space – the galaxies, planets, stars and more. Learn about Earth – with lessons about geology, the ocean, weather, and more! Explore Animals including hummingbirds, dinosaurs, dragons, poisonous frogs, and more. And learn about People and our minds, bodies and imaginations!

Each of these devotions for kids includes a focus verse, a “Be Amazed” section, with fascinating scientific facts, and a closing prayer. You’ll also find some easy-to-follow, hands-on STEM activities.

As the oldest devotional in the series, Indescribable has several companion resources available. They include the following:

Indescribable for Little Ones – this board book is perfect for little hands to follow along as older siblings hear the devotional.

Indescribable Atlas Adventures: An Explorer’s Guide to Geography, Animals, and Cultures Through God’s Amazing World, with more than 50 infographic maps and an overview of each country’s population, languages, and prominent features, and so much more!

Indescribable: 100 Tear-Off Lunchbox Notes About God and Science – matte cardstock booklet of 100 tear-off notes that will encourage your little ones as your journey through this devotional. Easy to write on the reverse side.

Indescribable Activity Book for Kids – with 150+ Mind-Stretching and Faith-Building Puzzles, Crosswords, STEM Experiments, and More About God and Science!

Indescribable Educator’s Guide – This guide can be utilized in the classroom, in a home school setting, or by parents seeking additional resources. Ideal for grades 3rd-5th. *Free for Kindle at the time of this update! The free printable Indescribable Educator’s Guide (Authorized) is available on Teachers Pay Teachers from Tommy Nelson Publishers.

HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD

The second book in the God and Science devotional series is How Great is our God. Like Indescribable, this devotional includes amazing facts, fun illustrations, and captivating photography. These 100 new devotions explore the wonder of God’s handiwork, from the massive to the microscopic.

Explore Space with devotions that explore the atmosphere and earth’s trip around the sun and so much more. Discover the Earth with devotions that take you from the pink lake in Senegal, to the Rocky Mountan Glacier Lakes, to Khone Falls and many other places. There are so many fun Animals featured including bats, turtles, and more. Plus, learn about God fashioned People and their allergies, cells, blood, nerves, and more.

Similar to the bestselling Indescribable, each children’s devotional includes a focus verse; a “How Great” section, with amazing facts; and a closing prayer. Additionally, this devotional has an index with all the topics covered. I love this.

The How Great is Our God Educator’s Guide is available free for Kindle and can be utilized in the classroom, in a home school setting, or by parents seeking additional resources. Ideal for grades 3rd-5th. You can also get a free printable How Great is Our God Educator’s Guide (Authorized) from Tommy Nelson Publishers on Teachers Pay Teachers.

THE WONDER OF CREATION

Ignite your child’s sense of wonder and awe as they see Scripture come alive through The Wonder of Creation. Children will find new delight in God’s creativity with 100 devotions that explore Space, Earth, Animals, and People like the other two devotionals. As you explore Space, you’ll learn about black holes, volcanic moons, gamma-ray bursts, and more. As you discover Earth, you’ll see how God fashioned rainbow rivers, blue lava, firenados, flowing glaciers, and more. As you learn about Animals, you’ll see His creativity in honeyguide birds, flying snakes, narwhals, white rhinos, and more. And as you learn more about People, you’ll learn about optical illusions, brain freezes, our immune systems, our voice box, and more.

Like the previous two books in the series, each devotional includes a focus verse and ending prayer. The “Explore the Wonder” sections for each devotion include amazing facts and some fun-filled STEM activities.

The Wonder of Creation Educator’s Guide is available free for Kindle and like the others is recommended for 3rd-5th grade and is for teachers, homeschool parents, or parents who’d like to extend the lessons in the devotionals. You can also get a free printable The Wonder of Creation Educator’s Guide (Authorized) from Tommy Nelson Publishers

As a Christian parent and homeschool parent, one of my goals is to help my kids develop a sense of wonder. Using the helps with that. My kids can’t get enough of the odd facts and I appreciate how every devotional points back to our Creator. It is obvious that Louie Giglio is passionate about inspiring kids to enjoy, and marvel, at God’s amazing creation. I also love that the illustrations of the kids in the devotionals are multi ethnic.

It was my hope that Louie Giglio would release a fourth devotional for children in the series before my kids outgrew, so we would have enough devotions to cover an entire year. While that did not happen, I would highly recommend all three of these faith and science devotionals to any parent wanting to inspire their child or children to love nature and the One who created it all. Snuggle in and watch their eyes dance as they discover just how creative and big our God really is!

We do still occasionally pull one of these from the family shelf and read one for nostalgia’s sake. And the kids have informed me that they can never land in the “rehoming” pile. They each want one of them for their stack of books that they will carry into adulthood. So, it’s just as well that we didn’t end up with a fourth for them to fight over.

This article was originally published in March 2022 and has been rewritten to include newer resources in the Indescribable Kids library, and because there’s some sort of issue with lists in my WordPress settings. Many apologies for the reformatting to eliminate those. I had to come up with my own resources and activities to extend the learning back in the day, and did not personally use some of these resources with my children, but I wouldn’t hesitate to use them now!
