Essential Oils for Travel
It’s no secret that I am a fan of essential oils. I have quite the collection of essential oils. I can’t take all of my essential oils with me when I travel, so I limit my selection to these oils, which I consider to be the best essential oils for travel.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree Oil is just amazing. It should be one of the first oils you pack! It is incredibly versatile and can be used for so many things. Tea tree oil has anti-fungal properties, so mixing it with distilled water and witch hazel makes a great foot spray for after using the hotel shower or pool. It can also be used on airplane tray tables, counter tops, or in the bathroom as a natural antimicrobial cleaner.
Lavender Essential Oil
A good night of rest is never guaranteed when you are sleeping in an unfamiliar bed – especially if you are traveling to a completely different time zone or have kids that are adjusting to this new routine. Rub lavender essential oil on your feet and spritz some lavender water on your pillow to promote relaxation and prepare your body for deep, restful slumbers. Lavender can also be used as a soothing after sun skincare regimen.
Peppermint Essential Oil
If you are prone to motion sickness or plan on eating foods that may be new to your digestive tract, be sure to pack some peppermint essential oil in your travel bag. Peppermint oil is great for an upset stomach and motion sickness. When diluted with a carrier oil, peppermint oil can cool the painful sting of sunburn. It’s also great for relieving muscle tension that could lead to headaches.
Lemon Essential Oil
Inhaling lemon essential oil helps reduce the response to new plants and animals in the environment.
Pro Tip – put a drop of lavendar, a drop of peppermint, and a drop of lemon in your travel diffuser
with distilled water and diffuse to keep your sinuses clear while traveling!
Ginger Essential Oil
Ginger essential oil is great for improving concentration. It is also great for motion sickness. If your motion sickness is bad, consider combining ginger and peppermint in a roller bottle with a carrier oil.
Hinoki Essential Oil
Hinoki essential oil promotes a sense of calm and emotional well being, relieves tension, and relaxes sore muscles. Hinoki is by far one of my favorite essential oils, and I rarely travel without it. Read more about Hinoki essential oil in my Top 8 Uses for Hinoki Essential Oil post.
Sage Essential Oil
Sage essential oil has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, so it gets packed right alongside the Tea Tree oil in our travel bag. It’s also a stimulant, so you can use it to combats jet lag and drowsiness without the jittery effects of caffeine by mixing with a carrier oil in a roller bottle!
Frankincense Essential Oil
I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to be sick, it’s going to happen when I travel. All of those changes to routine and everything tend to whack my immune system around. For that reason, Frankincense essential oil is ALWAYS in my travel bag. It’s a great immune booster. It also helps reduce the stress response and promotes sleep. No wonder it was given to baby Jesus. 😉
Citronella Essential Oil
Citronella essential oil goes into my travel bag for one reason and one reason only. I hate bugs and bugs hate citronella.
Lemongrass Essential Oil
Lemongrass essential oil is another one that bugs hate.
Pro Tip – I like to mix lemongrass, citronella, and lavender with carrier oil in a roller bottle and use it on my wrists and ankles to keep bugs at bay.
As many of you know, I was at Young Living distributor at one point. I love Young Living Essential Oils and remain a wholesale customer. Their Seed to Seal promise means a lot to me. While I am not actively selling a the moment (I don’t have time to be a direct sales super star), I do still love my YL oil blends.
Stress Away Essential Oil Blend
For many people, traveling comes with a tremendous amount of stress. Deadlines, itineraries, excitement, offset schedules, and the like. Stress Away blend is not only a phenomenal blend for promoting calmness and relaxation, but has helped many folks with muscle tension and headaches.
Valor Essential Oil Blend
Valor essential oil blend is one of those ultra-versatile oil blends that can be used for a myriad of different things. Sleeping in close quarters with someone who saws logs? Apply valor to the bottom of the feet to hinder that annoying snoring. It can also be diffused to help calm nervous tension and promote overall balance and equilibrium.
Thieves Essential Oil Blend
Thieves essential oil blend is perhaps the most popular essential oil blend for supporting healthy immune function. Especially if you are flying on a plane, riding in a bus, or visiting popular tourist destinations that are prone to germs and bacteria, give your body the boost it needs to prevent sickness when exposed to a plethora of germs. I use Thieves for EVERYthing, from laundry to cleaning floors, diffusing. When traveling, this blend is a MUST!
