Enjoying the Holidays in a Pandemic

Like many of you, the holidays are my favorite time of year. I love the way the weather gets cooler, pumpkin spice is back on sale, and everyone seems just a bit happier and more positive. It’s a truly wonderful time. Unfortunately, the covid-19 pandemic has put a damper on the festive season, to say the least. Many of us will need to change how we celebrate this year, but the celebration must go on! Here are a few tips to enjoying the holidays in a pandemic.

Enjoying the Holidays in a Pandemic

Since my parents moved a few years ago, travel has become a part of our holiday tradition. Given the daily changes in recommendations, I’m not so sure whether or not that’s going to happen this year. While I may not be able to see my family in person, I can still see my family, thanks to smart phones and computers. 2020 has certainly made me appreciate technology, and there are ways to celebrate the holidays, social distancing-style.

Virtual Gathering

If I’m not able to see my parents IRL, we will definitely plan to meet up virtually throughout the holiday season. The beauty of technology is that we could even schedule family game night or movie night. If you plan on meeting up with loved ones online this year, I’d recommend getting things set up at your house 10 to 15 minutes early to deal with any technical issues that might come up. If you, like me, have a few family members that struggle with technology, you can send them a link to an online video or article with instructions to troubleshoot basic problems. Patience is key with virtual meet ups, things don’t always go as smoothly as you think. Once you get everything set up, you and yours are sure to love seeing each other. Take advantage of the resources you’ve got to safely celebrate the holidays with your family this year.

Send a Card

Another way to celebrate the holiday safely is to send out holiday cards. I love getting cards in the mail from my friends and family. Displaying the cards we receive really helps us feel connected to the people we don’t see daily. My best friend also recently moved, and last year’s holiday card from her family is on my desk. It makes me smile every time I see it. I can’t wait to get this years card. I know your loved ones would appreciate a card from your family too. Basic Invite has some amazing options for stationery and invites. All of their cards are completely customizable. I love their Christmas cards and all their different holiday card ideas. If you’re planning on sending out holiday cards this year, be sure to check them out!

Take Care of You

The most important thing you can do to celebrate this holiday season is to take care of yourself. With everything that’s happened this year, we all need to make sure to spend time addressing our own needs. Whether you take a walk, read a book, take a hot bath, or eat a nutritious meal, take care to do things that you find fulfilling and calming.  I’m sure we all feel like we need to have a good holiday season; to have a break from all the stress we’ve had. The best way to have a good holiday is to start with having a good day. Take care of yourself and try not to stress. You’ll feel better when you do.

I hope despite the pandemic, you are able to have a good holiday season by taking care of yourself, sending out holiday cards, and visiting with family and friends virtually. Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas from me and mine!
