Elementary Math from Apologia

The brand new Exploring Creation with Mathematics is a blend of skills practice and hands-on activities.  This series is specifically designed to work with young minds as they expand their understanding and unlock the power of numbers in everyday life. The first three grade levels in this homeschool elementary math curriculum are intentionally designed to build a strong foundation of familiarity with numbers that becomes second nature as children learn how to manipulate numbers with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Each level includes a suggested Daily Schedule that is based on four days a week for 28 weeks.  Of course, you can adjust that according to your homeschool life and your child’s needs. On average, each lesson should take 30 to 45 minutes. That could vary, based on any hands-on projects or games, or if extra time is needed to complete a skills practice. There’s a handy math placement guide on Apologia’s site, and you can view a sample of each level, which is incredibly helpful!

As I mentioned, Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2, and Mathematics 3 are currently available. Mathematics 4, Mathematics 5, and Mathematics 6 are in the works. If they’re anything like the first three levels, you’ll want to be sure to keep watch for them.

WHAT WE THINK OF APOLOGIA MATH

My daughter loves that the math skills practice is not laborious. There are enough problems to establish what she knows and what may need to be reviewed. There’s also helpful reminders throughout.

Apologia Math Skills Practice

I love that it is SO incredibly easy to check for correct answers. Grading is NOT my favorite thing to do, and with three kiddos, I can easily fall behind on grading. The answer key makes it super easy to grade and evaluate understanding.

I also really appreciate the “Seeing Our Creator” sections. I’ve always tried to help my kids see God, and His creativity throughout our science and history lessons, but it never occurred to me to do the same for math.
