I recently finished reading Child’s Play, by Bill Myers.  Believe it or not, despite his popularity as a Christian author, this is the first book by Bill Myers that I have read.  It won’t be my last.  Child’s Play is the first book in what will be The Last Fool Series.  I’ve heard (and read) that Bill Myers is adept at keeping his readers tuned into the pages and that he has a way of making you think.  This is certainly true of Child’s Play.  The story draws you in and makes you care about each of the characters.  It is a comedy, is set fifty years in the future, and is set in a mental health facility.

TIME: Fifty years in the future. Religion has been banned.

LOCATION: Sisco Heights Mental Health Facility

CHARACTERS:

A seer who has delightful conversations with tattoos, electric shavers, and janitorial supplies.

A wannabe superhero, complete with shower cap, goggles, and bath towel cape.

A prophet who sees 20 seconds into the future.

An amnesiac who opens a fortune cookie and reads: “You are My favorite child. God.”

Careful to avoid state scrutiny, these quirky characters begin to explore the amazing possibilities if such a statement is true. The thinking soon infects other patients and the government must tighten its noose until it is met with some startling surprises.

Child’s Play is a easy, fun, read and will make you chuckle at some points, and shake your head at others.  It will make you think.  I’m looking forward to Book Two in the series, and to checking out more titles from Bill Myers.

Child’s Play is is one of the Jerry B. Jenkins Select Line of books.  It is available on Amazon or www.barnesandnoble.com or on http://mychristianbookorders.com/ or wherever Christian novels are sold.

Very interesting plot! I fear my children/grandchildren may live in a society where their religion is outlawed!
