If you’ve read my Gifts for Family Game Night article, you’ve discovered that our family loves to play games. We have an extensive collection. Our games collection includes everything from escape room games, to board games, to card games. Here are some of our favorite card games your family will love, too.
Card Games
One of my favorite games growing up was 500 card Rummy. Whether playing with my Mom or one of my siblings, I just loved keeping score and relished beating them. ScorZo is Rummy like never before! I can’t wait to have my sister over to play this one!
If your family likes to make up, and change, the rules as you go, then The Goodge Rules is perfect. If you win the bid to be The Goodge, then you make the rules for the game. This one is best played with kids age 8 and up, and with 3-4 players.
Have you ever played Spoons? It’s such a fun game, whether played as a family or at a party. Well, Spoons and a Spork is Spoons but with a “sharp” twist! Collect four of a kind and race to scoop up the spoons… but watch out for that spork! Oh, what fun!
Banapples is a strategic sorting game that requires speed, precision, and healthy dose of competition. This one requires critical thinking and fast reflexes, so bring your A game.
Garbage is a fast paced sorting game. It’s easy to learn, easy to play, and teaches sequencing. This is a fun one to take with you when you know you’re going to have down time with nothing to do.
War is a timeless classic card game that provides hours of entertainment. I remember playing war with my sister in our bedroom closet when we were kids. This updated deck has fun graphics, too.
If you think your kids will enjoy the War game, and think they’ll also like Slap Jack, Crazy 8’s, and Old Maid, go ahead and get the Classic Games Pack because it’ll provide hours of fun. Old Maid is updated with various community helpers, like firefighters and nurses, while Slap Jack is updated with the planets. They’d be perfect for use in unit studies. 😉
Trashed is a unique twist on the old-time favorite card game Garbage. Your goal is to get your cards lined up in the right order, from 1 to 10. The dreaded Trashed card, wild cards, and the Stop cards make this one interesting.
Scrabble Slam is a fast paced, easy to play, version of Scrabble that families will love! It can get pretty intense, so make sure you’re ready for some fun.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’d be like to combine the Monopoly Board Game with a Rummy card game, you need to add Monopoly – The Card Game to your decks. In this fun twist of a game, you draw and trade until the cards in your hand are organized into one or more of the Monopoly “color-groups”.
Speaking of Monopoly card games, Monopoly Deal and Monopoly Bid are fast paced and fun. Monopoly Deal only takes about 15 minutes to play a game, and you need to collect 3 property card sets to win. Monopoly Bid also requires 3 property sets to win, but adds the element of bidding in blind auctions and paying with money cards. Everyone gets a turn to host an auction. Oh, and you can steal property from other players. 😉

Scattegories – The Card Game is a fast-paced game that has two decks of cards, a category deck and a letter deck. Each time a category and letter combo is revealed, the first player to slap the “I Know” card and give an appropriate answer—like “Cake” for the combo “Desserts” and “C”—gets the card. At the end of the game, the player with the most cards wins.
Love the game of Clue, but short on time? Clue Suspect Card Game is the answer, because it’s all the fun of Clue in MINUTES!
Brainspin is a creative game. It’s like Boggle, with pictures. Players write down everything they see based on the card in play. No answer is too crazy as long as you can convince your opponents of what you see.
Pictureka Card Game is a card game that can be played 4 different ways. Each one has a different objective and pace. I prefer MATCHUREKA, which is where you find 2 cards that match the mission. “Something from the sea” – find a shark on one card and a boat on another. “Picture!” you’ve done it!
Blink is a lightning fast card game for two players. This one is great for eye hand coordination and training fast reflexes. If you’re challenged in these areas like me, just enjoy the game and lose with grace.
Of course, no card game collection would be complete without Uno, Dos, Skipbo, and Phase 10!
