As you know, Mister and Sister love to build things. Mister mostly, but Sister enjoys doing whatever Mister does. Since building involves critical thinking, math skills, and sometimes even science skills, we occasionally tackle building projects during school time. We recently tackled the Angry Birds Space – Hogs on Mars set from K’Nex as well as building with TinkerToys.
First was the Angry Birds Space – Hogs on Mars project. The set has 169 pieces and is recommended for children 7+. It includes a working launcher just like the game, with enough parts to build up and then knock down, plus a bonus Space Egg. Everything included works with other K’NEX Angry Birds sets. Some of the pieces are teeny tiny! Mister and Sister enjoyed helping build this set, but I had to do the bulk of the work. My efforts were soon demolished in an all out war on hogs. Oh my! Good thing it comes with the instructions, so I Daddy can rebuild later.
A favorite during school time, and playtime, is TinkerToys. Mister and Sister both LOVE their TinkerToys. We received the TinkerToy 65 Piece Essential building set- which includes spools, rods, flags, washers, end caps and more- for review. This set is perfect for builders of all ages, and it comes with a colorful instruction sheet that features building tips and ideas. It is recommended for ages 3+.
We added this set to several other sets of TinkerToys that we have, and now they could literally spend hours building with them. They’ve made swings, rocket ships…
As Mister was building the carousel, he informed me that although he knew dogs don’t ride carousels, he was going to have to “balance it out” with a dog, because their other TinkerToy man was being used by Sister. He is his father’s son.
Sister made a hoola hoop with TinkerToys, too. LOL.
