Would you believe that Americans spend an average of an hour a day in the bathroom? This time spent ranges from answering nature’s call to showering and putting on makeup- which is a lot of time to stare at a room you don’t adore. Instead of giving up on it, or getting frustrated, consider giving your bathroom new life with these budget bathroom makeover ideas.
Budget Bathroom Makeover
Fixtures
Replacing bathroom fixtures can make a huge difference in the appearance of your bathroom. That said, a new faucet can easily run upward of $150. There are other things you can replace for less than twenty. Handles for drawers, towel racks, and even an inexpensive lamp or light cover can help your bathroom. Updating things like the soap pump and facial tissue cover are also relatively cheap and can freshen the look. Go for metal finishes that can keep looking clean for longer, like matte black or oil rubbed bronze. Amazon is a great place to look for budget decor for bathrooms.
Window Covering
While curtains and blinds are great for bathroom windows, they also block out light. A cheap alternative to those are decorative window film. The non-adhesive window sticker is actually static cling without any sticky, harmful, and chemical glues. It is super easy to install on clean, flat window surfaces. It can easily be removed and reused. We have some in our master bathroom, and I absolutely love it.
Limit Tile
Although most tile looks very lovely and can be a great way to add a new face to any room, it’s also costly. If you already have tile in your bathroom, and it’s not cracked or in bad shape, consider deep cleaning the grout. Some tile floors can even get painted or stained to change the color of something you no longer find attractive.
Buy Used and Discounted
Thinking about ‘used’ things coming from bathrooms can gross some people out, but a lot of times, items get thoroughly cleaned before getting passed on. You can find discounted bathroom decor, faucets, tile, shower curtains, and more on sites like craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or in second-hand stores. Don’t turn your nose up at all discounted items; you can find real gems in among other things you wouldn’t consider.
A lot of websites offer huge discounts as well. When things aren’t considered ‘in style’ anymore, or stores bought more than they need, you may be able to find deals that are marked incredibly low. Set up price alerts, if possible, and keep an eye out for good deals.
Fresh Paint
Never underestimate the class a fresh coat of paint can bring to a room. A gallon-can of mold-resistant (or high-gloss) wall paint averages around twenty to thirty dollars. Look at your fixtures, and what towel and floor-mat you want to use, before considering a wall color. Find a color that suits the room and your tastes.
If you’re looking to buy a new home, don’t let the wall colors dissuade you from buying a home you love. New wall color and fresh artwork can turn a drab room into a fab room. If you’re looking at Nashville houses for sale, you might consider some Rockabilly wall art. That’d be a fun way to decorate the bathroom, even if you’re not in Nashville.
This fun nautical wall art would be perfect for a beach themed bathroom.
Fresh Curtains and Accessories
A budget bathroom makeover can be as simple as replacing the shower curtain. Shower curtains are inexpensive. There a lot of options available below twenty dollars, and offer you the chance to make a statement. Instead of going with a plain one-tone shower curtain, you can dress up the whole room a little more with one that has exciting plans or designs.
Make sure you have a liner as well, to ensure it lasts longer and won’t mold or fall apart.
In a year you may spend over two full days in your bathroom, with these inexpensive changes you can make that time a little more pleasant. Just remember that you can be true to your taste, and make the room fit with however you want it to look.
