Today’s topic is all about my favorite movie, My Fair Lady .
I absolutely LOVE Audrey Hepburn, and My Fair Lady has long been my favorite movie. I can watch it over and over.
My Fair Lady stars Rex Harrison as linguist Henry Higgins (Harrison also played Higgins, opposite the talented Julie Andrews), who draws Eliza (Audrey Hepburn) into a social experiment when he claims he can retrain her gutter garble and pass her off as a lady at the Queen’s ball. The film is truly a classic, and is unlike anything produced today. The story is funny, moral, has a teachable theme, and relatable, even today.
Often called the perfect musical, My Fair Lady is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. The Broadway production, in 1956, was a hit and had what was then the record for the longest run of any major musical theater production.
The songs in My Fair Lady are delightful, and I have found myself singing, “Just you wait Henry Higgins, just you wait…” more than once. At one point, I even wanted to name our son Henry, which would have paid homage both to my brother and to My Fair Lady. Of course, that idea was vetoed by my Hubs, and I wouldn’t change my son’s name now…
