Word of the Year- Delight + free printable

Welcome 2014!  I can hardly believe that it is 2014, can you?  While I have chosen a verse of the year in many years past, I haven’t chosen a word of the year.  Ahh, but I am this year. This year, I’ve chosen the word Delight as my word of the year for 2014.

delight

I chose the word delight because two of my favorite Bible passages contain it.

The first is Psalm 1(NIV):

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.

Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

The second is Psalm 37 (NLT):

Don’t worry about the wicked
or envy those who do wrong.
For like grass, they soon fade away.
Like spring flowers, they soon wither.

Trust in the Lord and do good.
Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.

Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him, and he will help you.
He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.

I created a print with the word, the definition as a noun and verb, and added Psalm 37:4 to it. I had trouble choosing which background use, so I printed one on a chalkboard background, a grey and black background, an oil canvas background, and a brown paper background.

I finally settled on the oil canvas background for my mantel.  I framed it and set it right next to a photo of three of my biggest delights. Since I had the files, I thought I’d share.  You can click on the image of each of the prints below (or their title) and the pdf will open in a new window/tab for you.  The prints are 5×7 in size.

In 2014, I will delight in…

the Lord

the love of my husband

the laughter of my children

the warmth of my family

the camaraderie of friendship

the taste of a good cup of coffee (you knew I would put coffee in here)

the thrill of a good book

the exhilaration of running

and so much more.

What will you delight in?
