What kind of pie plate do you use?

I have used a stoneware pie plate forever.  My husband got it from his Mom, and I have used it since we’ve known each other.  I’ve made pie, quiche, and a bunch of other stuff in it.

Well, as with anything that is well loved and well used, it finally saw it’s last day and I had to throw it out.  It was cracked all over the place, but I kept using it anyway, because it never leaked through the cracks.  Well, it finally did… several times.

So, now I have to get a new pie plate.   I can’t make my quiche without a pie plate, and I want to make quiche.

I would prefer a stoneware pie plate.  What kind of pie plate do you use?  Do you love it?  Hate it?  Tell me about it, so I can make an informed decision.

This is a good question…. I would like to know also! I’ve used glass but don’t really like it much. My mother had a stoneware pie plate that I loved, but she wasn’t parting with it 🙁

    • Lorri- I’ve used glass also. In fact, before I got my Hubs stoneware pie plate, glass was all I ever used. But I can’t see going back.

I have the Pampered Chef (stoneware)deep dish pie plate and love it!

    • Thanks, Malinda. I’ve heard good things about the Pampered Chef stoneware pie plate. I just wish it came in different colors!

Depends on what you want to spend. I love Emile Henri for casseroles, etc. which bakes so well.I have 2 sizes and love them and they are so easy to clean, but don;t have any of their piepans yet. I have old Corningware which works well. My Mom had old aluminum which I am not a fan of-makes stuff soggy.
That is all the info I have! LOL

    • Carol- I would like to spend less than $30. I’ve not heard of the Emile Henri dishes before. I will have to check into those. Thanks!

  4. I usually use a ceramic glazed pie dish.. they work so much better than any kind of metal.

    • Gianna- I am leaning away from metal more and more. I find they just don’t bake as evenly. At least, in our oven, anyway. Do you use a particular brand, or is yours just a run of the mill ceramic glazed pie dish? Thanks.

      • I bought them at target on clearance many years ago. The bottom of the pie dish says ‘Mayfair & Jackson’. I bought two matching loaf pans at the same time that make wonderful cakes, meatloaves and breads. I haven’t used metal since buying them.
I found a picture of the pie dish:
I can’t seem to find a picture of the loaf pans. The ones i’m seeing have handles or edges on the sides and mine don’t.

        • Those do look nice. And there is actually one in blue. Do you know how hard it is to find a blue stoneware pie plate? Thanks so much for commenting back.

  5. I use an Emile Henry pie plate (stoneware) which I LOVE! I used to use Pyrex but it’s horrible. Nothing, I mean NOTHING, sticks to the EH. It makes my pie crusts flaky and light. I never thought I’d care what kind of pie plate I used, but I will never go back to Pyrex. EH is a bit $$$, but worth it IMO. Good luck deciding.

Oops, sorry, Virginia, spelled it wrong. Here is a site you can see them:

I know ebay used to sell them. I actually got my years ago at Tuesday morning so I didn’t have to spend top dollar. They used to have a new shipment every year there, but don’t know if they still do it. Maybe looking around the internet you can find a deal. I do love EH!

  7. I have two deep dish ceramic pie plates that I purchase from LTD Commodities years ago and love them. You might want to keep an eye out on their site for some. Right now they do not have any, sorry.

  8. My favorite is a clear glass deep dish pie plate/ It’s probably Pyrex.

  9. I am a lousy baker, and I use the pie tins that come with the pie crust. 🙂 I do have a stoneware and glass, but just can’t seem to make my own pie crust.

Wow, y’all are all so knowledgeable and fancy. Lol. I use the throw away pie tin the ready made crust comes in. Hahaha!!! I have actually never made a pie. I make hamburger pie for supper sometimes but I use what I said before. I really need to branch out and try new things I suppose. Wow.

  11. I use a glass one I found on sale, I don’t know what brand. I’ve used it for pies, stack-style enchiladas, and even roasting yams a few times. I love it and haven’t had problems with sticking or clean up. The only stoneware I’ve used before was the round pizza/cookie sheet thing at my friend’s house. I didn’t have too good of luck with it.
