Together We Care #AbbottCFK #Cbias

Earlier this week, I told you about being selected to Make a Difference for One with the Champions for Kids #AbbottCFK Pack a Snack Campaign.  Now it’s time to tell you about what I did.   First, we headed to Walmart to shop.  We have two local Walmart’s, this one has a full grocery.

This was one of those rare shopping trips where I had very little on my shopping list.

We stopped by the produce area, and while there found some Buddy Fruits that are all natural.  I grabbed some to put in the snack pack, since they are 100% fruit.  Then we were off to find the PediaSure products.  First I headed to the pharmacy area, where I know they shelve the adult nutritional supplements.  I didn’t see any Pediasure there, although they had plenty of Zone Perfect bars and protein shakes.

Since I didn’t find the PediaSure in the supplements, I thought perhaps it might be kept with the baby formula, so we headed in that direction.

I was momentarily distracted by a seriously cute butterfly shirt.

Onward wayward shopper, right?

delores2I found the PediaSure right by the infant formula and was quite shocked at the selection.  Who knew there were so many options?

I had no clue whether to purchase the PediaSure or the PediaSure Sidekicks.  Checking the panels, I saw that the the PediaSure had more calories and protein, while the PediaSure Sidekicks had more fiber.  I thought a phone call was in order.

I’ve chosen to give my snack pack to someone very near and dear to me, my niece, Delores.  As you know, my son and I are affected by Hay Wells Syndrome.  What you may not know, is that my sister and her kids are affected as well.  My sister, Denyse, is disabled (because of a myriad of health problems) and lives on a fixed income.  Denyse volunteers at the pantry, when she is able to do so, and is a patron as well.  Because Delores has no natural dentition, and because she has difficulty gaining weight, she relies on Pediasure to provide the bulk of her nutrition.  I could think of no better recipient!

So, I called Denyse to find out which product would most benefit Delores, the Pediasure or Pediasure Sidekicks.

She said that when she can afford it, she gets the PediaSure because of the caloric content.  I grabbed two packs.  When I was leaving the area, I saw Yogurt Melts and called Denyse back.  She assured me that Delores LOVES them, so I grabbed a pack of those, too.

Mister and Sister were helping me shop, and Mister asked why we were getting “Lores” the drinks. I explained that sometimes Lores can’t eat, and she uses the drinks instead, and that we were getting them for her to show that we care.  He was pleased as punch.   Check out my Google+ album to see my shipping trip (and the seriously cute butterfly shirt).

I picked up a purple basket to put the snacks in.  Mister decided that snacks by themselves, though yummy, were pretty boring, and insisted that I put something fun in the basket for Lores, as well.

He thought that since we were giving her the snack basket to show that we care, we should give her a Care Bears coloring book, too.

Made perfect sense to me.

All that was left now was the actual giving of the basket.

Delores was tickled pink that we stopped by and surprised to see that we brought her goodies.  She dove through the basket, and quickly grabbed one of the bottles of PediaSure and asked her home care nurse to open it for her. Mister and Sister enjoyed the play date.

What would you put in a snack pack?
