Last night we jumped on the Metro and rode into the city to go to the Circus. I won four tickets from Margie at My Springfield Mommy, and although I wasn’t feeling so well, I thought it would be fun for the kids. I had never been to the circus (Mom had wanted to take us, but when the circus was in town, my sister and I were in the hospital for surgery), so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It was also Mister and Sister’s first Circus.
We didn’t tell the kids where we were going, just that we were going on an adventure. They love it when we say we are going on an adventure.
Here are just a few of the photos I took on our adventure.
Mister and Sister were both mesmerized by the aerialists. The photos in the second row were actually taken from above them, because they had their necks craned to see the aerialists every move. Sister enjoyed just about every aspect of the show. Mister was NOT fond of the Chinese lion/dragon costumes. When the “lion’s” came out, he started crying. I had to tell him that they weren’t lions, they were puppy dogs. Then I told him to watch for it to wag it’s tail. That seemed to work.
My favorite part of the show was the Torres Family with their motorcycles in the metal globe. How they manage to ride seven dirt bikes in that sphere without an accident is beyond me. It was simply fascinating to watch them.
My least favorite part of the show was when they did a “tribute” to side-shows of the past, including the bearded lady, Siamese twins, and mad man from Borneo. During the skit, the mad-man got loose, and the Siamese twins jumped apart. While I’m sure the skit was intended to poke fun at how far things have come in the circus, I didn’t think it was in good taste.
I also got to meet Megan of Half Pint House while there, which was a treat in itself.
We left a few minutes early and managed to beat the train traffic back, which was nice.
This morning, when I asked Mister what he dreamed about last night, he said, “I was in the circus with the doggies, elephants, and tigers. It was fun!” So, I’m glad that we went despite my not feeling 100%!
Have you ever been to the circus?
