Digital Folio

imageI do a lot of my shopping online these days.  Nothing irritates me more than completing a purchase, then finding the same item on another site, only cheaper!  Of course, I price shop by comparison, but I just don’t have the time to visit twenty sites to check prices before I buy.  Which is why I am excited about Digital Folio.  Digital Folio is a FREE comparison-shopping app that finds and tracks price savings for automatically.  It is compatible with Internet Explorer or Firefox on PCs or Macs.  I currently prefer Firefox, which works out perfect.  Digital Folio provides real time price comparisons, which nets real time savings!  Talk about an intelligent shopping list!

digital folioFor example, we are shopping for booster seats for the kidlets.  The child safety seats they are in now have a five point harness and a 50 lb weight rating.  Missouri law requires children to ride in a booster seat until they reach 8 years old or 80 pounds or 57 inches tall.  Of course, I will keep them in a five point harness as long as physically possible, but at some point, we are going to have to move them into a booster seat that secures with the automobile’s lap belt.

To take the Digital Folio for a test drive, I added a couple of the booster seats that we are looking at to My Folio.  It was really easy to do.  In fact, I just went to Amazon, found the seat we are watching,  and did a price comparison.

As you can see, Digital Folio highlights the lowest price.  It compares the prices of major retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Sears, Target, and Walmart, and prices of your saved items automatically update, even when you’re offline..  Digital Folio’s current product categories include Computer Printers, Personal Audio Players, Camcorders, Children’s Car Seats, Point ’n Shoot Cameras, Televisions, Computers, Blu-Ray Players, Refrigerators, Microwaves, Washers, Dryers, Dishwashers.  According to Digital Folio, they always have new categories in the works.  I hope those new categories include grocery and more kitchen items, such as bakeware.

I like the fact that I can share My Folios, either with friends by email or by Facebook.  I shared my booster seat folio with a friend and my husband.

Let’s Tackle Kindergarten Review plus Giveaway

***Giveaway closed– and the winner is Heather R.  Congratulations, Heather!  Please check your email and respond within 48 hours or a new winner will be chosen.***

When searching for learning toys, one of my “go to” place is Learning Resources. I absolutely love the fun, bright, colorful products offered by the Learning Resources site, all aimed at helping you help your little one learn.

Since we are working on ABC’s and 123’s, as well as sorting, I was absolutely delighted when I learned that I would be able to review the Let’s Tackle Kindergarten tackle box. The thing that first drew me to it was the pet counters, which are washable, soft plastic animals that can be used for sorting, patterning, counting, color identification.  The pet counters are 1 1/4″ and the Let’s Tackle Kindergarten kit has 16 of them in it.  Of course, this kit has stacking cups, a write and wipe board, attribute blocks that can be used for patterning, foam dice, plastic links, and much much more.

Let’s Tackle Kindergarten™

Ages 3-6

The tackle box is packed with fun activities that help prepare your child for early success in school.

  • Engages kids in practicing 10 key kindergarten readiness skills: social skills, personal well-being, listening and speaking, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, reading, handwriting, math, thinking and problem solving, and creativity
  • Features appealing hands-on activities, that ease the transition to learning different skills and subjects in school
  • Allows you to track and reward progress using the checklist included in the 24-page Activity Book
  • Includes 10 double-sided photo cards, 4 stacking cups, 60 plastic links, bean bag, 2 foam dot dice, 8 attribute blocks, 26 uppercase letters, 26 lowercase letters, 20 numbers, 16 pet counters, write & wipe board and 2 sticker sheets
  • Plastic tackle box with sorting tray and carrying handle measures 13″L x 7″W x 6″H
  • Ages 3+
  • I’ve read that having your children tell stories about the pictures they see helps them get ready to read.  So, when we show the double sided photo cards to Mister, we ask him to tell us what is going on in the picture.  You should see how animated he gets when he talks about the soccer picture.

We use the stacking cups and the pet counters to play a sorting and counting game, which Sister is able to join as well.  She can count to three, then starts throwing in random numbers.

I found that while Mister does like the plastic links, he doesn’t quite have the fine motor skills to link them on his own.  Either that, or the ouchies that he gets on his fingers from the Hay Wells Syndrome prevents him from manipulating them.

    Count Your Blessings Game Review

Count your blessings, name the one by one…

If you are anything like me, life gets busy sometimes.  And sometimes, I forget to count my blessings.  According to TIME Magazine, counting your blessings is the number 1 path to finding happiness.  But, if you forget to count them…

Which is where the inventor of the Balderdash game, Laura Robinson, comes in.  Laura and co-author/inventor Elizabeth Bryan just released a new game called Chicken Soup for the Soul- Count Your Blessings.

    From the Manufacturer

To be the first player to flip their 4 tokens from “Stressed to Blessed”, “Tired to Inspired”, “Frazzled to Dazzled”, and “Mad to Glad” simply by looking on the positive side of life! Spin the spinner, find the silver lining, and collect cards to come out a winner. Count Your Blessings is all about finding the “bright side” to each scenario on the cards, no matter how big the challenge, and seeing that every situation in life is full of “blessings-in-disguise”. The YOUNGEST PLAYER goes first by spinning the SPINNER. The corresponding card is read, a silver lining response is given, and in some cases, voted on. See specific CARD INSTRUCTIONS below. Play continues in a clockwise direction until one player wins the game by turning all 4 tokens over to the sunny yellow side! A note from the inventors: There are no hard and fast rules – only fun. So use these rules to help guide the game, adapting them in whatever way helps you find as many silver linings as you can. And remember, everyone wins when we all remember to count our blessings! Enjoy.

    Product Description

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Count Your Blessings is the fun feel-good family game that gets everybody talking.. and everybody grateful! The game is inspired by the #1 New York Times best-selling series of books that have enriched the lives of millions of people all over the world.

What a neat game!  I just love some of the cards in this game!  For example, in the “Attitude of Gratitude” deck, one of the cards says,

Your alarm went off, you barely got any sleep and you have to wake up for work or school. Get out of bed and share a way to go from “tired to inspired!”

With Daylight Saving Time sabotaging my kids sleep schedules, I could relate!  Instead of getting up at their usual 7:30 a.m., they want to get up at 6:30 a.m.

There is not enough coffee on the planet to convince me that getting up at 6:30 a.m. is a good idea.

But, what about the way to go from “tired to inspired?”

    Well…

Getting up at 6:30 a.m. will enable me to get my household chores done BEFORE I run errands.   That is, of course, if I can quit kicking myself in the rear end because my butt is dragging so hard.

Another card, in the “Count Your Blessings” stack says,

“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” – Jim Rohn

Share TWO ways you could take better care of your body.

Easy.  1. Lose weight.  2. Get MORE sleep.  LOL.

The Chicken Soup For The Soul Game – Count Your Blessingsis available on Amazon.com, as is the Count Your Blessings book.

The game retails for $24.99 and the book for $14.95.

Why not grab the game and play it when your family gets together to celebrate Thanksgiving?

Disclosure- The marketing team for the Chicken Soup for the Soul- Count Your Blessings game provided me with a complimentary game to facilitate my honest review.  No other compensation was received and all opinions expressed are my own.

    One World Futbol Review

Most children enjoy playing ball.  Somewhere within the world, nearly every hour of every day, a child can be found playing ball.  Here in the U.S., we have the benefit of grass fields to play on.  However, not all children have that benefit.  The One World Futbol Project is a project that is making it possible for anyone, anywhere to play soccer with a ball that matches the endurance of the sport.

The One World Futbol Project was spearheaded by Tim Jahnigen, an inventor, song-writer, and music producer.  After watching footage on CNN—of young Darfur refugees playing a makeshift game of soccer under the hot sun—with the “ball” a sphere made of trash tied up with twine and the “field” a patch of dirt and rocks with barbed wire for boundaries—Tim couldn’t help but think that a ball could be made to withstand the rugged terrain and harsh conditions, one that would allow these children to play ball WITH a ball.

Tim later shared his vision an indestructible soccer ball with world-renowned entertainer Sting, who immediately offered financial backing for research and development of the indestructible ball.  Through their efforts, OWFP has created the world’s most durable soccer ball, one that never deflates, will play even when punctured, and can be played in the harshest of environments.  It even survived a round in the lion’s pen at the Johannesburg Zoo and remained playable after being run over by a pickup truck.

    Check this out…

The ultra-durable, all-terrain One World Futbol is sold online through a “Buy One Give One” model at oneworldfutbol.com.  For every ball purchased, One World Futbol Project is committed to donating a second ball to a non-governmental organization working with people who live in harsh environments around the world, including refugee camps, UN hot spots, conflict zones, inner cities and poor communities worldwide.

So, this Christmas, as you buy a ball for the little guy or gal on your list, why not shop for gifts that give back and give one to a child who may not otherwise ever receive one?  Trust me, if their smile is anything like my son’s as he plays with his One World Futbol, it is truly worth it!

    One World Futbol

My son absolutely loves his!  And my daughter loves to pounce and bounce on it.  But, since I know it can stand up to being driven over by a truck, I don’t mind!
