Small Talk Six Rewind 1

As I mentioned in my Small Talk Six July 17 post, I missed an entire MONTH of Small Talk Six.  Seriously?  Ugh.   But, because I think the topics were great, I am going to do a few Small Talk Six Rewinds, to cover the one’s I missed.

Small Talk Six at MomDot is a weekly Meme with a different topic.  You can learn more about the Meme and the list of topics for Small Talk Six 2010 by going here.

The rules are:

Grab a Small Talk Six button for your post and sidebar.  Then post on your blog your response to the assigned topic of the week.  Your response can be as brief or elaborate as you wish, but must be in 6, i.e. a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, or 6 photos, etc…

The topics I missed are…

June 26 – 6 ways you indulge or spoil your children

July 3 – 6 of your favorite things that are red, white, or blue

July 10 – 6 t-shirts you’ve read and loved

Today I will cover the “6 ways you indulge or spoil your children”

Of course, I will offer a disclaimer and say that my kids are not spoiled…. tee hee hee…

  1. My kids watch DVD’s.  Of course, they are educational (Sesame Street, Elmo, Barney, Bob the Builder, Hermie, etc, etc) and were it not for the DVD player, my laundry would NEVER get done.
  2. My kids get Smarties from Pastor Debbie every Sunday.  I am NOT a fan of giving candy to toddlers.   It’s just not good for them… their teeth, their BEHAVIOR.  However, Pastor Debbie LOVES to give all the kids candy from the candy jar after class on Sunday’s, so my kids are allowed to get in line and get one pack of Smarties.
  3. Mister gets to “help” me in the grocery store.  IF he is behaving appropriately, I allow him to walk along beside the cart and I hand him the canned goods or boxes and let him put them in the cart as we shop.  Then when we get to check out, I let him help put things on the conveyor.  IF all of that goes well, and he is still behaving, he gets to hold the receipt.  Yes, it makes my shopping trips twice, if not three times, as long.  But, because I am talking to him about the groceries, the prices, what we are going to make with them, etc, I feel like it is a teaching opportunity.
  4. Sister has an easy button, or pacifier.  She is 17 months old.  She went without it for several days in June, but it didn’t work out so well, so I let her have it back.  I figure she bottle broke herself at 10 months, if she wants her “Paci” she can have it for a few more months.
  5. My kids both love cheese slices, so we buy a LOT of them.  I usually buy one or two packs of American slices every WEEK.  I figure they need the calcium, and they eat enough fruit and vegetables to keep them from getting constipated, so what’s the harm?
  6. My kids think the silicone oven mitts are “quack quacks” and love to use them to “get” each other.  So, I let them.  I even bought one that looks like a ducks bill.  I know they are not intended as toys, but it’s just too stinking funny to watch them chase each other with an oven mitt on their hand going “Kak kak kak kak.”

Wow, I had a hard time thinking of six.  Maybe because it’s 2 a.m. when I am writing this post.  And maybe because my kids really are not spoiled… Perhaps I should ask my Mom or MIL Barb how I spoil or indulge my children.  I’m sure they could each come up with a few answers!

How about you?  How do you indulge or spoil your children?

Be blessed,

Virginia

7 link challenge

While visiting of of my favorite fellow mom blogger’s, Annie of Mama Dweeb (and entering the Chicago Baby & Toddler Expo contest), I saw that she is celebrating her blogiversary and she posted about the Pro-blogger 7-link challenge to celebrate.   I know Annie would love it if you dropped by to wish her a happy blogiversary!

The Pro-blogger challenge idea was to publish a post that is a list of 7 links to posts that you and others have written that respond to the following 7 categories. Your links should be to:

  • Your first post
  • A post you enjoyed writing the most
  • A post which had a great discussion
  • A post on someone else’s blog that you wish you’d written
  • Your most helpful post
  • A post with a title that you are proud of
  • A post that you wish more people had read

So, here goes…

TerriAnn, from Cookies and Clogs, is another mom blogger that is playing along as well and has linked to a FABULOUS post on homeschooling that I keep in my bookmarks.

How about you?  Are you participating in the Pro-blogger 7-link challenge?

Be blessed,

Virginia

Chicago Baby & Toddler Expo ~ Ticket Giveaway! | Mama Dweeb

I entered a contest, hosted by Mama Dweeb, for tickets to the Chicago Baby & Toddler Expo.   The expo is technically in Schaumburg, but, hey, anyone familiar with Chi-town knows that if it’s north of Joliet it is CHICAGO!

I lived in the Chicagoland area (Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Glendale Heights,  Wheeling, Mt. Prospect) for almost five years before I got married and LOVED it.  I often miss Chicago.

So when, I saw the contest over at Mama Dweeb’s, I thought it would be FUNTASTIC if I won, because…

  1. I would get to visit some really FUN friends in the Chicago area.
  2. I would get to see a lot of FUN products
  3. I would get to meet a lot of FUN Reps
  4. I would get to have a PORTILLO’s Maxwell Street Polish!  Y.U.M.M.Y.

The Expo is Saturday July 31st 10am – 5pm. Sunday August 1st 11am-4pm

So, anyway, while I dream of all the things I love about Chicagoland, why don’t you hop on over and enter to win tickets to the Expo!

Hope Blooms Quickpage

So, here is the quickpage I promised from my new kit, Hope Blooms.

My husband created the color palette. I named the kit Hope Blooms because our hope to adopt is in bloom. Kinda corny, I know.

The kit will be in the store tomorrow at http://prettyscrappy.com/

Check out yesterday’s post for reminder of what the kit looks like…

Snag it here (sorry, link expired)

On another note. For those of you who pray… Please keep my sister Denyse in your prayers. She was told today that she is losing the vision in both of her eyes. She has three little ones (as seen in the picture above) and it breaks my heart to think that she may not be able to see them one day.

Thanks,

Lady V
