Roku XD Review

The Roku is a tiny little black box (it’s only one inch tall and less than five inches wide) that packs quite a punch.  This HD player is simple, easy to use, and affordable.  And it is one of my favorite tech gadgets!

Roku XD

There are actually 3 versions of the Roku available: The HD, the XD, and the XD|S.  The Roku XD is the midline version, and is able to stream movies from Netflix, Amazon VOD, and more, using your high-speed Internet connection.  It has built in wireless and wired Internet connectivity.  Since we have all of our home technology networked, the wireless feature is great to have.  The Roku XD plays up to 1080p HD video and will work on any TV.  The best part is, it does not require a PC for streaming.

Roku

Hubs had the Roku XD set up in no time.  It was simple enough, though, that I could have done it quickly as well.  I love that Roku offers a lot of free content, including the NASA channel.  We don’t have cable, so we’ve previously been unable to watch the NASA programming.

Roku

The Roku takes up very little space on the top of our TV, which is fabulous, because we had very little space to offer it.

My favorite part about the Roku?  We can now stream LifeChurch.tv without ever having to turn on the computer!  Woot!

The only thing I would change is that given the chance, I would get the Roku XD|S, so that I could use my thumb drive on it to show off pictures when people come over to visit.  Other than that, I wouldn’t change a thing.  The Roku is also small enough that you can pack it into your bags when you travel.

Right now, you can save $20 off a Roku player by clicking here.

Roku—now playing: whatever you want.

Tassimo T20 Brewbot Review plus #giveaway

Anyone who knows me, knows that I like love coffee.  I am a self professed coffee connoisseur, or aficionado, or coffee snob (although I really don’t like the term coffee snob).  Rare is the day when you will find me without a cup of java in my hand.

A coffee connoisseur is a person who has a great deal of knowledge about the brewed drink prepared from the roasted seeds (commonly called beans) of the coffee plant, or an expert judge in matters of the taste of said brew.

A coffee aficionado is one likes, knows about, and appreciates coffee.

I have literally been drinking the brew since the age of two.  When I was a toddler, my Mom would add cold water to her cup to keep me from burning myself when I reached for it.  I have had the pleasure of drinking some of the finest brew on the planet, and I have also had the unfortunate occasion to drink that which tasted like swill.  I have frequented coffee houses for as long as I can remember, and once even dreamed of opening my own coffee house.

I recently received the opportunity to review the Tassimo T20 Brewbot, which is a single cup brewer, from Bosch.

Tassimo

After un-boxing the Tassimo, I rinsed the water tank and inserted the included special cleaning disc (which is conveniently housed in the back of the machine) and ran five cycles of hot water.  The instructions said 4 to 5, so I did five for good measure.  After that, my T20 was ready to use.

The Tassimo uses the Tassimo-labeled coffee pod, called T-Discs.  The T-Discs are each bar coded. The T20 reads the bar code printed on each T-Disc and automatically calculates the amount of water needed, the brewing time, and the temperature needed to result in a perfect cup each time.

Tassimo T-Disc

Our Tassimo T20 Brewbot came with the Starbucks Cappuccino Primo and Gevalia Signature Blend beverages.  Because Hubs is NOT a coffee drinker, I went to our local BB&B and purchased the Suchard Hot Chocolate pack as well.

Starbucks® Cappuccino PrimoGevalia Signature Blend CoffeeSuchard Hot Chocolate

After brewing his hot chocolate, I decided to have a cup of cappuccino.  The cappuccino is a two-disc process.  First, you have to insert the milk disc, and it steams your milk and adds it to the cup.  Then you add the espresso disc, and it finishes off your cappuccino by adding the perfect amount of espresso.

Tassimo TassimoTassimoTassimoTassimoTassimo

Don’t worry if the pot steams, it is just delivering the brew at the right temperature.

I have to say, my cappuccino was delicious, and it was just like the ones from the coffee house up the street, minus waiting in the long line.

I have since also tasted the hot chocolate and the Gevalia Signature Blend.  While I thought the hot chocolate was great, the Gevalia Signature Blend needed a little help, as it was a bit stronger than I like.  I look forward to trying even more flavors!  While coffee is my preferred brew, the Chai Latte from Twinings® and the Black Tea from Tazo® are on my list to try as well.

Prima Princessa- The Nutcracker DVD Review plus Giveaway

***Giveaway closed.  Winner notified by email.***

We have a lot of DVD’s that are geared for Mister, and not so many that are girly for Sister.  So, when NCircle asked if I would like to review Prima Princessa- The Nutcracker, I thought it would be great for Sister.

prima princessa ad

This is our first Prima Princessa DVD, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised that both of the kiddos enjoyed watching it.  The movie is about a group of children watching a performance of The Nutcracker, and a little fairy ballerina narrates.  The DVD also has segments where it teaches dance steps and allows the viewer to follow along.

While I don’t think my two will be dancing on Broadway anytime soon, it was cute watching them try to mimic the steps that were demonstrated on screen.

The NutcrackerBecome a ballerina! Prima Princessa brings you England’s world famous Birmingham Royal Ballet performing excerpts from The Nutcracker that will inspire the ballerina in you! Come join in the holiday fun with Prima Princessa as she takes you to a magical show filled with snow fairies, toy soldiers, tutus, pirouettes and plies.

Pocoyo

Pocoyo (which means “little me” in Spanish) follows the adventures of an inquisitive three-year old boy and his animal friends. Elly (the elephant), Pato (the duck), and Loula (the dog) join Pocoyou as he laughs, dances, and plays his horn across the screen.  The show is carried on Nick Jr and on PBS stations.  It has won multiple awards and encourages children to learn through laughter.  The charming, vibrant and multi award-winning animated preschool series Pocoyo, already an international hit, is now brought to life for American preschoolers with Pocoyo Toys, including bath figures and plush!

Strider PREbike Review plus Giveaway

***Giveaway closed.  Winner notified by e-mail.***

Mister just turned three.  For his birthday, he received a Strider Pre-Bike.

Over the summer we had purchased a 12 inch 2 wheel bike with training wheels on it, and while he can pedal it– with a lot of effort– he generally prefers to either walk with it straddled between his legs or push it down the sidewalk and run along side it.  He doesn’t like the way the 2 wheel with trainers wobbles a bit when he pedals, hence him straddling it or pushing it along.

strider About the Strider (courtesy of http://www.stridersports.com/)

Designed for Toddlers, ages 1 – 5, the Strider™ running bike is lightweight, easy to control and
features an adjustable seat and handlebars to accommodate a growing child. Most importantly,
the Strider teaches your child balance, coordination and develops glittering confidence.

And the Strider is steady, stable and safe. At the first feeling of instability, your child will
instinctively place his feet securely on the ground. So there are no “tricycle tip-overs” or
“training-wheel wobbles” that stir-up a fear, hesitancy, or dislike of bike riding.

We thought a Strider PREbike would be a great way to bolster his confidence and build his coordination.

Strider

He was very excited about it!

Strider Pre-Bike

He insisted on helping Daddy put it together.

Strider

Assembly was quite simple, and in no time at all, he was ready to go.

Strider

And judging from his expression, he really likes his new wheels!

Strider

This morning, as he rode through the house, he kept saying, “I have to go, Mommy.  I have to go on my bike.”

Strider

I can’t wait to see how he handles it outdoors!

It’s the toddler bike that’s making training wheels and tricycles obsolete!
