Pink and Brown Crib Bedding plus Giveaway

Press Sample

When Hubs and I were trying to decide how to decorate the nursery, Hubs wanted modern crib bedding.  He wasn’t picky about colors, but he wanted it to have a modern vibe to it.  I spent what felt like an eternity pouring over crib bedding online.  Then I found a pink and brown baby bedding set by JoJo Designs that I adored.  When I showed it to Hubs, he said, “That’s the one.”

We like JoJo Designs and have their Deco Dot Bedding Set for Sister.  I briefly thought about getting the matching crib set for Little Miss, but decided to hold off, because by the time she is old enough to have an opinion AND they share a room, they may have different tastes.  So, pink and brown it is.

JoJo Crib Bedding

SO. Pretty! This 9 piece crib set came with a crib comforter that is designed with a pink and brown damask print in the center and an espresso brown border with pink satin ribbon trim.  The crib bumper is in the same materials and the design is the same on both sides, so it is reversible, and it ties on the top and bottom.  The set includes two window valances, a crib skirt, a 100% cotton espresso brown fitted crib sheet, a diaper stacker, a “toy bag” that has 4 pockets, and a decorative pillow.

I have the toy bag tied onto the end of the changing table right now (foot end) so I can put a couple rattles or what not in there for easy reach when I need to occupy Little Miss during a diaper change.  I haven’t quite figured out what to do with the matching bumper pads, since new the expanded set of guidelines released by the American Academy of Pediatrics, on safe sleep and SIDS prevention for babies, recommends against the use of crib bumper pads in infants’ cribs.  With Mister, we had to use the crib bumper pads because of his skin.  With Sister, we skipped them, and she did just fine.

So, what creative ideas do you have for me on how I can use the crib bumper pads?

PartyLite Autumn Glow Votive Holders

I really enjoy Autumn and everything that goes with it.  Falling leaves, pumpkins, the farewell to scorching heat, the smell of delicious things baking.  Ahhhh.  I also enjoy decorating for the Fall and Winter seasons.  Summer is kinda blah for decorating around here.  Autumn comes, though, and it’s time to break out the pretties.

This year is especially exciting, since we’re nearly finished with the remodel and I feel like I can start concentrating on making our house a beautiful home again.  Which means it is time to break out the candles and décor.  Yay!

I recently received a pair of PartyLite Autumn Glow Votive Holders for review, and absolutely fell in love with them.  I think they are just gorgeous.

Part of my Autumn décor also includes two Native American statuettes that my Grandma Carol, who was a NA, painted.  I always have a hard time figuring out what to put with them, because I don’t want to overdo the display.  This year, I displayed them with the pair of PartyLite Autumn Glow Votive Holders and I think it looks perfect.  The votive holders are the perfect touch, and I love how they cast the images of leaves on the wall behind them when they are lit.

Now I just have to figure out what to put on the wall.  LOL.

PartyLite has long been a favorite source of candle and home décor for me.  Hubs loves it, my MIL Barb used to sell it, and the pieces are timeless.  The quality of their candles is second to none, and I really enjoy their candle scents, too.  The new By the Fire scent is delightful, as are the new Silver Birch & Fig™ and Poinsettia & Musk™ scent.  My personal favorite is an older scent, Tamboti Safari™ (aka Man in a box) that has stood the test of time.  If they ever retire it, I think I would cry!

Beach Inspired Guest Room

The fam and I recently went on a ten day, three state, vacation.  First stop… Indiana to visit Uncle Tom and Aunt Jenny.  I was thrilled when I saw Jenny’s recently redecorated guest room…

beach inspired guest room

SO pretty!

Jenny made the lamp shade and the shell basket hanging on the wall.  I’m certain there are other things in the room that she made, because she is crafty, and uber talented, like that.  I just loved the twine wrapped glass jar juxtaposed with the sailboat!

The room was so comfortable, an oasis away from home.

Thanks, Tom and Jenny, for your hospitality!

Deco Dot Bedding Set

I’ve wanted to update the kids bedrooms for a while now.  I decided to start with Sister’s bedroom simply because I had more of an idea of what I wanted for it.  Deco Dot Modern Childrens and Teen Bedding Set - 4 pc Twin Set I wanted something for her room that would last her awhile.  It would be nice if it lasted until she was old enough to really have an opinion on how her room should be decorated… say twenty.  LOL.  I didn’t want to do character bedding—who knows if she’d still like the character in two years—or typical little girl’s bedding (although I found a fantastic 4-piece Pretty Pony Twin Bedding Set that I know she would have loved).  I wanted something that was cute, colorful, playful, and could conceivably be loved by a 3 year old or a 13 year old and was drawn more toward teen bedding everywhere I looked.

I found the Deco Dot 4-piece Twin Bedding Set by JoJo Designs, at Beyond Bedding, and absolutely fell in love.  I thought it would go well will the taupe walls in her room, not to mention the turquoise area rug and curtains, and pink accents, already in her room. I could redo her bedroom without spending a fortune.

Me. Likey.

And apparently, so does she.  She was pleased as punch to see her new bedding with hot pink, bubble gum pink, turquoise, lime green, orange, and chocolate brown dots all over.  She could care less about the coordinating brown bed skirt, and I knew that she wouldn’t have liked the suggested coordinating sheets that are white with brown trim.  Instead, we got the 3 pc Twin Sheet Set for the Pink and Green Flower Bedding Collection.  She was excited to be getting pink sheets.  She’s always had to use white or blue.

I don’t think I have ever seen her so excited to climb under the covers.  LOL.

The comforter and sheets fit the bed perfectly, and the bed skirt does too.  I do have to say, though, that the sheets wrinkled BADLY in the wash.  I guess that is what you get when you cram a comforter, bed skirt, 100% cotton sheets, and pillowcases into the washer and dryer.   Next time I will try washing them on their own, and see if they wrinkle as bad.

The valance is too large for her window.  It is 84 inches, and I think her window is 54.  I thought about doubling the valance, but think I may tack it with some darts in between the tabs instead.  It looks cute with the turquoise curtain, if not for being too big.

Now I need some of those colorful dots for her wall.  I can’t wait to finish redoing her room, and plan to install new shelves in her closet next. so I can try to harness her corral of toys!

Next up?  A new bedding set for Mister!

Kitchen Reno Dream Revisited

Do you remember my Kitchen Reno Dream?  It is getting closer to becoming a reality… since we recently requested a contractor bid to renovate our kitchen :::squeal:::  I am so excited!

With the kitchen reno approaching, I have been looking at TONS of kitchens online.

You might remember that I really liked the look of a black and white kitchen.  black and white kitchen

I also like the look of a yellow kitchen.  Yellow is so sunshiny and happy!  Look at that yellow kitchen.  Doesn’t it just make you want to smile?

These black counters are nice, but I am thinking we should go with something that is flecked, maybe with white and gray.

black and yellow kitchen

I really like the black table in the above photo, so I wanted to see some yellow kitchens with black tables.  I found this charcoal and yellow kitchen, and think it is LOVELY.  We will eventually end up with all stainless or nickel colored appliances, so I like the gray in there, too.

When we were chatting with the contractor, he made a very valid point.  He told us that if we want to use a statement color, we should think of using it where it can easily be redone in a few years if we tire of it (i.e. no canary yellow counter tops).  Since I really don’t like the blue countertops that we have now, I heartily agreed.

Speaking of blue… have you seen Ellie Blue from the Vera Bradley Spring 2012 collection?  LOVE it.

Ellie Blue

We do have blue in our kitchen now (we kinda had to with the countertop color).  I have cobalt blue glasses that were my grandmothers, and we have blue dishes.   I think canary and cobalt, against the backdrop of a light gray wall, would pair nicely with black floors and white cabinetry.

What do you think?

Oooh…I should get paint samples.

Woot!
