How to Host a Successful Summer Barbecue

Summer is upon us, and everyone is itching to fire up the grill and host a summer barbecue! Our Nation’s birthday is just the perfect occasion for it! There are a few key factors to hosting a successful summer barbecue and this list is a great guideline for how to do exactly that!

How to Host a Successful Summer Barbecue
1. Quality food.
This might sound obvious, but it’s serious! While it’s okay for normal summer grilled dinners to be whatever meat you can find in your local supermarket, when you’re hosting a summer barbecue, it’s absolutely worth it to splurge a little on the really good quality stuff from a butcher or some place like Whole Foods for a great barbecue. This applies to produce as well. Grilled veggies are a hit at barbecues and you want to make sure they’re good quality and delicious!
2. A working grill.
If it’s been a while since you last used your grill, definitely brush up and make sure it works before you invite the whole neighborhood to your summer barbecue. Make sure there’s plenty of propane if it’s a gas grill, or that you have charcoal if it’s a charcoal grill. Make sure it’s clean and working well. Just as long as you don’t invite a bunch of people over only to find out you have a broken grill (eh, hem… personal experience) and end up having to order pizza!
3. Entertainment!
Look into some fun games for your summer barbecue so your guests can have fun while the food is cooking! Make sure to cater to your audience as every group of people is different. For some, entertainment might look like videos game and some iced tea. For others, outdoor activities like football, horse shoes, or volleyball might be in order! Either way, make it fun!
4. Sunscreen.
Nothing is a bigger party pooper than a painful sunburn. Make sure if you’re going to spend the day outside in the sun, you lather up in sunscreen to avoid that! It will make everyone happier if they don’t have to worry about peeling skin and blisters the next day! We like to keep Coppertone Water Babies Sunscreen Lotion on hand for those who forgot to apply before arriving.
5. Check the weather beforehand.
If you’re planning a barbecue, try to look ahead at the forecast and make sure the weather permits. It’s not very often that it pours rain on a day that was forecasted to be sunny and 100 degrees, so just double check!

All of these tips will help you host a great summer barbecue and keep your guests happy and entertained!

I will be attending Bloggy Boot Camp STL this weekend, since it is practically in my backyard.  I am looking forward to the ability to network with other bloggers IRL.
