Have you noticed the decline in the quality of family entertainment available on network television in the last few years. I don’t want my kids growing up thinking that certain behaviors are acceptable and/or normal. Hence, more often than not, I find myself changing the channel or turning the tube off, because I don’t want my one year old and two year old to see and/or hear the things that are aired on television.
Which is why I was excited to learn about “Secrets of the Mountain,” which will air on NBC on April 16, 2010 at 8/7 CST. “Secrets of the Mountain” is an fun-filled, real-life, action-packed, QUALITY family movie brought to you by Walmart and P&G as part of their larger effort to bring more quality entertainment to families. I had the opportunity to screen this movie, and I have to tell you, it looks like the big corporations are starting to realize that the best way to reach parents and their families, as well as their patronage, is to pay attention to the things that matter to us… our children. As parents, we want more positive options when it comes to family entertainment, and Walmart and P&G have sat up and taken note.
Somewhere between the demands of her career, her ex’s wedding and her kids’ busy schedules, Dana James is noticing her tight-knit family starting to unravel. An unexpected offer to purchase her family’s mountain property sets up a weekend road trip, which she hopes will bring her family back together. But when they arrive, they quickly learn that the mountain is much more than it seems. An ancient secret and a treacherous quest will test the family like never before. It’s an edge-of the-seat thriller that reminds us that when times are tough, families don’t run away from problems – they run back to each other.
While many “made-for-T.V.” movies are cheesy and lacking in real depth, “Secrets of the Mountain” is not. There is product placement, most notable at the beginning of the movie. However, the theme of the movie, soundtrack, and the effects are great. The storyline is heartwarming and demonstrates beautifully the struggle that takes place when families drift, or pull, apart. A struggle that many of us face in our own families, So, I give it five of five hearts.
Although I’ve seen the movie in it’s entirety, I plan to watch it again when it airs. If we, as parents, want to take back Primetime and make it safe for our little ones, it is important that we tune in and lend our support.
To help build excitement about “Secrets of the Mountain,” I am hosting a giveaway for a special movie bundle.
