One Goal at a Time- #getfit

Do you know the chorus to the old song, One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus?

One day at a time sweet Jesus
That’s all I’m asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday’s gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.

In the last few days, the chorus of One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus, has been rolling through fitbit ariamy head.   Funnily, at times, it rolls through as “one day at a time” and at others it rolls through as “one goal at a time.”   It is perfectly normal (to me, at least) to ask Him for help with both my day and my goals.  As I mentioned in my Slow and Steady post, I am approaching my quest to get fit one ten pound goal at a time.

Yesterday, I hit  passed one of those ten pound goals when I weighed in at 186.9 pounds.

<—See, Aria is talking to me again!

That puts me down by 15.8 pounds since July 12th.  It means that I have lost a total of 38.1 pounds from my heaviest weight of 225lb (beginning of 2011).   fitbit measurement tracker

My next goal is to be under 180 pounds, which means I have 7 pounds to go to my next goal. When I shared my scale picture on my personal FitFluential Is Fitness FoundFacebook page, a friend commented that there was no way she’d share her scale picture on Facebook.

I totally understand that. I share it for three reasons…

1.  It keeps me accountable.

2.  The encouragement helps.

3.  If it inspires one person to make healthier choices, then it is worth the embarrassment of knowing that I’ve told the world I have equal opportunity fat cells.

While I am setting one ten pound goal at a time, the fact is, I don’t care so much about the number on the scale as much as I do about the way I feel.

I want to be fit—in mind, body, and spirit.  My body was not created for inactivity.  God created me to be active, and I have found that even a daily walk makes a huge difference not only in my physical well being, but in my spiritual well being.

That Bald Chick does a headstandTo that end, I applied to be a FitFluential Ambassador.

I think being a FitFluential Ambassador would be the perfect compliment to my goal of encouraging, educating, and inspiring others to join me on the journey to get fit.

As you know, I want to run the Hot Chocolate 5K in December.  I’d eventually like to train for longer runs than that.

One of these days, I’d like to turn this headstand—>

into a handstand.

In the meantime, I’ll keep up the slow and steady while counting my calories and singing One Day at a Time over and over in my head.  See, and now you’re singing it, too.

  5. I think that your approach is incredibly healthy and will result in more weight loss for you. My husband struggles with his weight, and any time he has lost a ton in one sweep, he has gained it right back. He is currently taking a similar approach to weight loss as you are and is seeing great results. Take it slow and steady, and keep it up! 😉

By the way, this is the first time I have visited your site, and I LOVE it! I think it’s so awesome that you are rockin’ the bald look instead of feeling the need to cover it up simply because women in our society tend to have lots of hair! You look beautiful! 🙂

  6. Congrats on the weight loss and yep, I am now singing that song too! 🙂 I’ll be following your journey!

  19. One day at a time is my usual mantra when I am feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes that becomes one minute at a time if I can’t get passed my own mind, but, honestly, reading your post makes me realize that when I am lacking motivation to take care of myself, I need to get over it. You go girl! You’ve motivated me today. Break it down into attainable, specific, measurable goals and it will happen.
