Color me pink and call me happy!
I have been wanting to get a custom personalized t-shirt emblazoned with That Bald Chick for a LONG time now. Well, okay, for at least a year now. I just never got around to designing one. Until recently, that is. When Just Jen contacted me about doing a custom shirt review, I jumped—nay, I leaped—at the chance. You see, I had admired Just Jen custom shirts on other bloggers sites, and wanted to get one. I just hadn’t done it yet.
So, after I was done leaping about, I set to work perusing Just Jen’s site again, trying to figure out how to customize my very own rhinestone shirt. Of course, I knew that I wanted it to say That Bald Chick. I just needed to choose a shirt style, shirt color, a font style, a symbol, and color of rhinestones. So many choices!
I knew I wanted to get a long sleeved shirt because it is Winter in the Midwest. Let’s face it, I’ve lost some of my insulation, so I am getting cold a lot easier this year than I did last year. The long sleeve options are either a fitted long sleeve or a cotton/spandex long sleeve shirt. I chose the cotton/spandex long sleeve shirt, made by Bella, for two reasons. First, it said it was more forgiving in sizing, and I like a forgiving shirt. Second, the site listed it as being a longer length shirt. I like my shirts to cover some of the junk in my trunk when possible. So, longer length it is.
The site recommended ordering order one size larger than your typical size in this shirt, as it is a fitted style shirt. I can wear a size large shirt. However, I prefer to wear extra large shirts to avoid appearing immodest. So, I decided to get the 2XL. After having lost weight, ordering a 2XL was a bit of a blow to my ego. I didn’t wear a 2XL at 225lbs. But, I also didn’t wear fitted style shirts. I realized that it doesn’t MATTER what the tag on the shirt says, as long as I like the way I look and feel in it. KWIM?
Okay, so we got the shirt style down. Shirt color options in this style are white, pink, and black. I don’t wear white. Period. I spent too many years in nursing scrubs to ever voluntarily wear white again. I also don’t wear pastel pink. When I wear pastel pink, people presume that I am a breast cancer patient and that I am wearing the color in support of breast cancer awareness. I am all for breast cancer awareness. But, I hate having to explain fifty times a day that I am NOT, in fact, a cancer patient. So, to avoid unnecessary drama, I don’t wear pastel pink.
Now, onto font, symbols, and rhinestone color. I thought about doing pink rhinestones, but pair pink with the phrase “That Bald Chick” and it would be practically the same as wearing a pastel pink shirt. So, pink was out. My favorite color is green, so green it is.
Now, for font. I liked the look of the Nuptial font and the Double Font. I thought the double font would look better on the black shirt, so I went with it and a heart symbol. I learned that they probably wouldn’t be able to fit “That Bald Chick” in the double font on one line with a heart, so I asked if I could switch it up and do “That” on one line with a heart on either side, and “Bald Chick” on a second line. With splitting it up, I thought it would be cool if I could change up the font of “That” and chose to go with the Nuptial font for it, keeping “Bald Chick” in the Double Font.
When my Just Jen shirt arrived, I was pretty excited. I love how it looks and feels. It is SO soft. The customization turned out perfect, and I think using the two different fonts really made it special. I have to say, I am glad that I ordered the 2XL, as I wouldn’t have been comfortable wearing an XL—it would have felt too-fitted. I have washed my Just Jen shirt three times now, and all of the rhinestones remain intact. This may be my first Just Jen shirt, but it will definitely NOT be my last!
