Getting Ready for Summer Vacation

Summer is coming!  Summer is coming!

It has been a few years since I awaited summer with any form of eagerness.  However, since I have lost a significant amount of weight (and inches) since the last swim suit season, I don’t think I will be nearly as self conscious in a bathing suit this year.  Which is awesome, since we are signing the kidlets up for swim class, and parents are required to attend and assist.

The presence of a brand new basketball goal parallel to our driveway also drives the excitement for summer.  Hubs and I just ordered it recently, and he spent a day putting it up over the recent holiday.  We have thoroughly enjoyed shooting hoops together, and trying to teach the kidlets how to do the same.  Lifting either of them overhead high enough to reach the hoop to make a basket is a workout in and of itself, and one that I love.  I would not have been able to do it last year, let alone do it repeatedly.

Yes, I am excited about summer!  I am especially excited about our upcoming summer vacation!

As we sat recently, planning our summer vacation, I began to worry about how I will manage to work out while we are vacationing.  In the process of getting fit, I am using the elliptical 5-6 days a week.  I know that failing to plan is planning to fail, so, I spent some time thinking about how I can maintain my healthy lifestyle while on vacation.

First of all, we chose vacation accommodations that has a fitness center with treadmills and elliptical trainers, and a full array of cardio and strength equipment.  As long as I continue my habit of getting up at 5 a.m. daily to exercise, I should be able to exercise and not interfere with family time.

I also purchased a set of resistance tubes that fit easily in our travel bags.  I realize that I may NOT want to get up at 5 a.m. daily while on vacation, so if I skip the elliptical, I can still workout, and that is what counts.

Finally, our vacation spot also has a ready to use kitchen.  That way, I will have more control over my meals, and be able to ensure that I stay within calorie budget.  We have a menu plan for the week, and we know which meals we are eating out.  We will take non-perishable food from home, and then we will stop at the local grocery once we arrive, and purchase the perishables for the week.  Of course, I will also likely get a few Smart Ones for convenient, portion controlled meals.

Weight Watchers Smart Ones is making it easier to stay on track with a healthy meal plan without spending time on prep work beforehand. I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Weight Watchers Smart Ones and received a promotional item and coupons to facilitate my review.
