Discovering Magnets

While browsing Pinterest, I found this pin of a discovery bottle designed to teach kids about magnets.

While I plan to eventually get the Learning Resources Classroom Magnet Lab Kit for the kidlets, I decided these bottles would be a great introduction to learning about magnets.  So I saved two flavored coffee drink bottles, picked up some pipe cleaners from the local craft store, and got out the Mod Podge.

I cut up the pipe cleaners.  At first, I cut the pipe cleaners into fourths, but that was way too big.  So, I cut them smaller.  Once I was satisfied that the pipe cleaners were short enough, I enlisted Mister and Sister’s help with putting the them in the bottles.

After they put the pipe cleaners in the bottles, I Mod Podge’d the lids in place.

When the Mod Podge was dry, I let them have fun discovering magnetic properties.

While the small magnets that we keep on the refrigerator did move the pipe cleaners around, and even pull one or two pieces to the top, we did have to get the magnetic wands to enjoy the discovery bottles fully.

Mister and Sister really enjoyed this project, and I look forward to our next project!
