ChicoBag Produce Stand Bags for the Eco Conscious

Since 2004 the ChicoBag Company has been on a mission to help humanity kick the single-use bag habit. The Produce Stand Collection is the next logical product innovation to help eliminate single-use bags. Thousands of single-use produce bags are used daily, and the majority end up in landfills. The Produce Stand Collection makes it possible to completely eliminate single-use plastic bags from your shopping trips.

About the product…

The ChicoBag company recently introduced at new Produce Stand Collection.  The new collection offers three different bags, each constructed from a different fabric designed to optimize freshness. Each starter kit includes three bags that all serve a unique purpose when paired with the right produce. The Hemp-Cotton blend is perfect for leafy greens, grains and green beans. The Mesh rePETe™ is great for apples, oranges and potatoes.  The rePETe™ will keep your squash, broccoli and carrots fresh. All bags stuff into an apple pouch when not in use, making them easy to carry and store. The apple pouch features an attached carabineer, truly making this produce bag set unforgettable.

About ChicoBag

In early 2004, ChicoBag™ founder Andy Keller took a trip to his local landfill after spending the day landscaping his backyard. He was horrified by how many single-use bags filled the scene.  Plastic bags blanketed the landscape in a thin mix of white and beige plastic. On his way home, Andy continued to notice plastic bags everywhere; caught in trees and on fence posts, half drowned in gutter puddles and blowing in the streets like urban tumbleweeds. Andy vowed to stop using single-use bags for good. Inspired, Andy dropped a few bucks on a secondhand sewing machine and began sewing what would ultimately become the first ChicoBag™.  Now, ChicoBag™ is an industry leader in the reusable bag movement and a leading innovator of compact reusable bags and packs that easily stuff into an integrated pouch. ChicoBag™ offers a wide array of reusable bags designed with the user in mind. Our commitment to the environment drives us to provide a trusted brand and a portfolio of quality products aimed at helping humanity kick the single-use bag habit.

“We are continuously looking for ways to help humanity kick the single-use bag habit,” said ChicoBag founder Andy Keller. “We are pleased to introduce a new product that will not only help us accomplish our mission, but also help to promote food freshness and longevity.”
The new produce bags are available at retailers nationwide in May and also online at www.chicobag.com.

What I thought…

Thanks to the PR team for ChicoBag, I recently had the opportunity to the ChicoBag Produce Stand Starter Kit.

I love that all three Produce Stand bags fit into the little apple pouch that they came with.  I can clip the pouch to my purse and have them handy when I am shopping.  We went to the Farmer’s Market at Soulard to test out the produce bags.  It is really quite amazing how much these bags can hold!  I did find that the vendors at the different booths still wanted to try to give me plastic bags for my items, but I just insisted that I had the bag covered.

While I like all three bags, my favoriteis the Mesh rePete, which is perfect for potatoes.  We don’t use potatoes very quickly, so the ability to keep them fresh in the Mesh rePete bag is ideal.

I also love that ChicoBag offers a custom reusable bag program, which combines the incredible popularity of the eco-friendly ChicoBag™ brand with viral marketing initiatives, helping businesses align their marketing with social responsibility.

What I would change…

I wouldn’t change anything about the actual bags themselves.  They are well made and really do keep produce fresh when paired correctly.  The only thing I would suggest would be to include a small laminated reminder card on the carabineer, instructing which bag is ideal for which produce.  I found that I was putting things in the wrong bags while shopping, and having to resort when I got home to make sure I used them correctly.

How I rate it…
