Potty Training Stinks

Potty training stinks.  Well, not potty training itself, but the aftermath of soiled underthings that accumulates when one is waiting to have enough laundry to justify a load.  Febreze Laundry Odor EliminatorThen of course, there are the unfortunate episodes when said soiled laundry comes out smelling as if they had never encountered the rinse and spin cycles.  Oi vey!  Just last week, I washed one pair of Sister’s jeans three times (THREE) before they finally smelled clean.

Of course, I do all those things you are supposed to do, like rinsing the soiled underthings immediately after they become soiled, and getting them in the wash as soon as feasible.  But, sometimes that just isn’t enough.

Fortunately, Febreze Laundry Odor Eliminator understands tough odors.  It is specifically formulated to capture tough odors in the wash cycle and rinse them away during the rinse cycle, the first time.  While detergent is designed to get the dirt out, Febreze Laundry Odor Eliminator is designed to get the stink out.  It is safe to use with detergents, bleaches, fabric softeners, and other laundry additives.  It carries the Good Housekeeping seal of approval, which I trust, so I’ve added Febreze Laundry Odor Eliminator to my laundry arsenal.

Flowers Make Me Smile

Receiving a bouquet flowers makes me smile.  I don’t know why, it just does.  Whether because I am enamored by the beauty of the blooms, or because I know that they represent the fact that someone thought of me and took the time to let me know, either way, they just make me smile.  I can be having the worst day possible, and will split a grin from ear to ear when flowers arrive.  I recently received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Send Flowers, that was arranged by a local florist.

And while this bouquet did not look like the bouquet I thought I would be getting, Send Flowers' Pink Celebration Bouquetand the vase was clear instead of the lovely pink fluted vase I had hoped for, the roses in this bouquet were absolutely gorgeous!  I absolutely LOVE duo-toned roses! I’m not certain what all of the other flowers were, but they were fragrant and beautiful.   I smiled as I placed them on the counter.

And then I laughed uproariously at the look on Hubs face when he came home and saw them, looking at them quizzically, wondering who in the world sent me flowers, since it had not been he.

Ah, good times.  As you know, Mother’s Day is fast approaching and is a great time to send flowers to your Mom or a mother-figure in your life.

What other occasions prompt you to send flowers?

Rock N Learn Sight Words (5/4)

It is no secret we are fans of the Rock ‘N Learn educational DVD series.  I’ve yet to find a rocknlearnlogoDVD produced by Rock ‘N Learn that my kids don’t enjoy and I don’t appreciate.  We just added the Sight Words DVD to our library, and I am a fan!

About the Rock ‘N Learn Sight Words DVD…

imageSight words are the  words most frequently used in the English language.  The Sight Words DVD helps students learn to read them automatically.  Rock ‘N Learn Sight Words boosts reading and spelling skills, as a supplement to phonics-based strategies. Children learn more than sixty sight words with engaging characters, entertaining songs, and fun practice.  Words are presented in context to help students build reading comprehension. Includes all pre-primer Dolch words, the top 20 from Fry’s, and more.  A bonus section helps kids with word shapes and spelling skills.

Pre-k & up. Approx. 50 minutes

Mister has been working on learning to read.  Math is his specialty, and reading is not coming quite as easily, which is frustrating for him.  Adding Sight Words to our video library helps take the work out of learning, and add the fun back in.  When learning is fun, frustration levels are lower, which makes a happy homeschooling Mom.

Rock ‘N Learn would like to offer TBC readers 25% off with coupon code JQ7711 at www.RockNLearn.com.

They would also like to give one lucky reader a DVD of their own choice from the Rock ‘N Learn collection.

My Little Pony Friendship Express Train

I recently received an email inquiring if I would be interested in reviewing the My Little Pony Friendship Express Train from HasbroMy Little Pony Friendship Express TrainUm. Yes.  I will review anything My Little Pony that Hasbro wants to send my way!

You may recall (from this post) that Sister is a HUGE My Little Pony Fan.  She loves anything that has to do with horses, and her MLP’s are her go-to-toy.  She wags those things everywhere.

I just knew Sister would swoon over the train for three reasons… 1) It’s My Little Pony. 2) it’s pink AND purple, and 3) it’s My Little Pony.  Needless to say, I immediately said yes!  Of course, my assent had absolutely nothing to do with my desire to play with the track myself… LOL.

About the My Little Pony Friendship Express Train

Let your imagination explore as you take an enchanting trip on-board the My Little Pony Friendship Express Train.  Ponies can hop a ride on the colorful caboose and tour the town with the motorized engine car, complete with a snug seat for PINKIE PIE to play conductor!  Simply click seven lavender tracks together (in various configurations) and tour away, transporting your ponies (and other animal friends) on non-stop adventures!

Train set includes 7-piece track, a PINKIE PIE pony figure, motorized engine, railroad cart and sticker labels. Requires two “AA” batteries, not included. Available at most major toy retailers nationwide, on HasbroToyShop.com, and on Amazon.

Like I said, I knew that Sister would absolutely adore the MLP Train Set.  I didn’t, however, anticipate that Mister would be enthralled with it, or that Sister would be so enamored when I took it out of the box that I wouldn’t even get to apply the stickers before she pulled out of the station!

For some reason, I see more My Little Pony Friendship Express Train Cars in our future!  Now just to get this away from her long enough to put the stickers on! LOL.  The only thing I would change about this fun filled toy is that in addition to making the track reconfigurable, I would make additional track pieces available, separately, so that it could be expanded.

Unjunk Your Junk Food

I recently joined the review team for Naturally Savvy.

Naturally Savvy

Admittedly, I am not a “crunchy” mama.  I know am not green enough, natural enough, or organic enough to be considered crunchy.  I am, however, migrating my family toward healthier lifestyles, and I like the Naturally Savvy website.  So, when I had a chance to join their team of reviewers, I signed up.  Naturally.

As a reviewer for Naturally Savvy, I recently received a copy of the new book Unjunk Your Junk Food, coauthored by Andrea Donsky, Randy Boyer, and Lisa Tsakos. image

As a parent of a child with a food allergy, I am a label reader.  By necessity, I always read the ingredient labels first, because I am looking for the allergen.  Coupled with this,  as a family, we have become more conscious of other things in our foods, as well.  And we want better options.

Several months ago, I declared that we were doing away with boxed foods altogether.  I failed.  Miserably.  Because, let’s face it, boxes are more convenient and often easier.  Not to mention CHEAPER.  That’s where the Unjunk Your Junk Food guide comes in handy.  The point of the book is to help you avoid the junk (i.e. chemical additives, colors, etc) in your food.

The book lists The Scary Seven, or seven things you DON’T want to see in your foods.  What are The Scary Seven?

    1. HFCS: High-Fructose Corn Syrup (AKA glucose-fructose in Canada)
    2. TRANS-FATS: Anything listed as ‘partially hydrogenated’ or ‘hydrogenated’ (includes vegetable shortening);
    3. MSG: Monosodium glutamate;
    4. ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS: Any artificial flavoring;
    5. ARTIFICIAL COLORS: Any type of artificial dyes;
    6. ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS: Chemical sweeteners including Aspartame, Splenda (sucralose), Ace-K (Acesulfame Potassium), Saccharine, etc.
    7. PRESERVATIVES: Polysorbate 60, 65 & 80, TBHQ, Sodium Benzoate, BHA, BHT, Sulfur Dioxide (sulfites).

You’d be surprised by how few items in most pantries escape without at least ONE of the seven in them.  I know I was.   Even my “healthy” nutrition bars have some of the scary stuff in them.  Bleh.  While my cupboard isn’t quite there yet (I do use Splenda), it is moving in the right direction!  The healthiest packaged food in my cupboard?  WOWBUTTER.

The NaturallySavvy.com team has started an ‘edible (R)evolutionTM and I plan to join in. Check it out, you may decide to join, too!  While your at it, Like Naturally Savvy on Facebook.

Unjunk Your Junk Food is available wherever books are sold, including on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble.
