Smile Squared Giveaway

Did you know that February is National Children’s Dental Health Month?  As you know, Smile Squareddeveloping good oral hygiene habits at an early age, and scheduling regular dental visits, helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.  Good oral hygiene habits promote dental health as well as overall health.

A toothbrush is one of those basic necessities of health, right?  Sadly, it is considered a luxury for too many children in the world.  Many children not even own a toothbrush.

Smile SquaredSmile Squared, a St. Louis based company, wants to change that.  Smile Squared has pledged that for every toothbrush they sell, they will donate one to a child in need. Now that is a small pledge that can have a big impact on the world.

We recently received a set of Smile Squared child-sized toothbrushes for review.

Smile Squared

The Smile Squared toothbrushes are constructed with a bamboo handle and recyclable bristles. Even the packaging is recyclable.  After removing them from the packaging, which is recyclable, I grabbed a Sharpie and marked them with the kids initials.  It was the only way I could figure to keep them from confusing whose toothbrush was whose, since they look the same.

Once I had the initials in place, it was time to give them a whirl.  Mister examined his before deciding it was okay to use.

Mister’s gums are sensitive, so we have always used soft-bristled toothbrushes with him.  The recyclable bristles on the Smile Squared toothbrush are a bit firmer than his gums are accustomed to.  That, added to the fact that he has a new molar coming in, meant that he had a tinge of bleeding the first time we used it.  He hasn’t had any further bleeding, though, so it wasn’t a problem.

When it’s time for a new toothbrush, I plan to use the bamboo handle as plant marker, an imageidea from Jennifer at Jennifer’s Pharmacy in St Louis. How cool is that?

Purchasing personal hygiene products is one of the most basic things we do.  By changing the way we purchase them, we can meet a growing need and impact lives.  Rethink Buying.  Have a smile, give a smile.  I like it.

The Amazing Mat Review plus Giveaway

With the recent spring-like weather in St. Louis, my kids have been able to play outdoors more.  Which they love.  And they have been tracking in dirt more, which I LOATHE.

When I recently received an opportunity to review The Amazing Mat, an anti-bacterial adhesive mat that traps dirt, germs, and bacteria and KEEPS THEM OFF YOUR FLOOR, I was like, “Yah, baby!”

Each mat has thirty layers specifically engineered for capturing mud, dirt, allergens, fungus, mold and even feces.   When the top sheet of the mat is dirty, you simply peel away the recyclable sheet to reveal a new layer.

Can’t beat that, right?

When The Amazing Mat arrived, I placed it in front of our back door.  Easy peasy.

Mister wanted to know what it was, and what it’s supposed to do.  I explained to him that it is “traps” crumbs and dirt, off of our feet, to help keep the floor clean.  Sister playing in the mudHe immediately brushed some crumbs off of the table onto the mat, and walked onto it.

I didn’t expect him to DO that.  I was about to warn him that he shouldn’t walk on it without shoes on.  Because he is affected by Hay Wells Syndrome, the skin on his feet is extremely delicate.  When he stepped onto The Amazing Mat with his bare feet, my heart skipped a beat.  In my minds eye, I saw the skin peeling off of the bottoms of his feet followed by weeks of wound treatment.  I immediately picked him up to examine the bottoms of his feet, and to my surprise, they were fine.

Crisis averted.

While Mister and I were discussing The Amazing Mat, Sister was outside, splashing in a mud puddle.  She loves playing outdoors.  Rain. Sleet. Snow.  It doesn’t matter, she doesn’t care.  She just wants to be outdoors.

She came in, asking me to wash her hands, and when I looked down, I could not have been happier to have The Amazing Mat on my floor!

Muddy Boots on The Amazing Mat

Once she was done playing outside, I left her boots on the mat by the door.  After the mud dried, I simply removed the dirty layer, and BOOSH!  It was a clean layer WITHOUT THE MOP!

The Amazing Mat ($29.95) is available in six different designs and can be purchased at www.theamazingmat.com.

I can’t say that I will always use The Amazing Mat, but I WILL be putting it down on rainy and muddy days to save myself from having to mop the entire floor!

Where would you put The Amazing Mat?

Resolution Rewind with Trop50 plus Visa Giveaway

Did you know that statistically, over 40% of the people who set New Years Resolutions abandon them within the first thirty days?  As I mentioned in a a previous post, Resolutions or Goals, I tend to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-targeted) goals rather than resolutions.

I also mentioned that one of my goals was a revamp of this site.  As you can see, I’ve accomplished that (with a little help from my friend Greg).  Now that January is almost over, and I thought it would be fun to take a look at goals again.  But before I do, I thought I’d ask, do you know what the top 10 resolutions for 2012 were?  I do…

  1. Lose Weight
  2. Get Organized
  3. Spend Less, Save More
  4. Enjoy Life to the Fullest
  5. Staying Fit and Healthy
  6. Learn Something Exciting (New)
  7. Quit Smoking
  8. Help Others in Their Dreams
  9. Fall in Love
  10. Spend More Time with Family
I thought it was interesting that more people resolved to lose weight than resolved to spend more time with their families.  Hopefully, all the plus size resolution makers are already spending time with their families, and their families (and a desire for health) is what prompted that goal.

I don’t know.

imageTropicana Trop50, a juice beverage that offers fruit juice goodness with 50% less sugar and fewer calories and NO artificial sweeteners, is celebrating the real reasons behind New Year’s resolutions with their Trop50 True Resolutions campaign on Facebook.  Some of the resolutions are serious (i.e. I want to lose weight, I want to give up chocolate—what?—I want to get fit, I want to get a new job, etc, etc) and some of them are downright funny.

Share your secret motivation on the Trop50 Facebook Page and you’ll earn a coupon for $1 off Trop50 for yourself and 50¢ off coupons for up to 50 of your friends. You can even submit incognito with a fierce disguise. Bonus: Whether you submit a resolution or not, you can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $1000 gift card!

In 2012, we (Hubs and I) want to… Be more creative with our kids.  You’ve seen (in the last few days) where creativity can take us, and frankly, we like it.  We get a kick out of doing projects with them, and whether painting or baking, they enjoy it, too.  We want our kids to look back one day and say, “Mom and Dad took time.”
