Mister loves to eat oatmeal. He eats instant oatmeal at least 4-5 days a week. Because Mister eats oatmeal frequently, I am often looking for varieties that are healthy and tasty. So, when I had the opportunity to do a taste test for Better Oats™, an innovative new brand of instant oatmeal from Malt-O-Meal, that has flax in all of its varieties, I jumped at it.
Better Oats™ is made with 100% whole grain, contains ground flax in every pouch, has 34 unique varieties, is a good source of Omega-3 and is naturally trans-fat and cholesterol free.
Better Oats™ has also developed more convenient and environmentally friendly packaging. The Better Oats instant oatmeal pouch doubles as an easy-to-use Measuring Cup Pouch™, simplifying
breakfast on-the-go and ensuring a positive oatmeal experience. The space-saving package is also better for the planet and the pantry, generating up to 35%* less waste than existing cartons in the oatmeal aisleand taking up less space on kitchen shelf.
Our taste test arrived in a large box. On the top level of the box was two bowls, two wooden spoons, a packet of Better Oats™ Oat Revolution Apples & Cinnamon flavor as well as a packet of Quaker™ Apples & Cinnamon flavor. It also had six jars side by side. On the left was a jar of Better Oats apples, Better Oats oats, and Better Oats flax. On the right was the competitors apples, oats, and an empty jar, since the competitor doesn’t have flax in theirs. Under that was a box that had six varieties of their instant oatmeal, including their Oat Heads™, which is a variety for kids, and is a good source of calcium, Vitamin D and antioxidant vitamins A and E.
These are the ones we received…
Mister wasn’t quite sure what to think about the big box, or the jars inside. I, however, did examine the jars. It appeared that the Better Oats™ apples were larger, if not double, the size of the competitors apples. The oat flakes were also significantly larger. Using the measuring pouch that the Better Oats ™ is packaged in, I prepared the package of Better Oats™ Oats Revolution Apples and Cinnamon flavor, following the package instructions. I also prepared the Quaker™ according to the package instructions. The Better Oats™ cooked up nicely in the microwave, and it did have a creamy texture, albeit somewhat grainier than the Quaker™. The Better Oats™ wasn’t as mushy as Mister normally eats his oatmeal, so it took him a minute to decide to eat it.
In our house, the true taste test is whether or not the bowl or plate gets pushed toward us when empty with the words, “Mo, pees,” accompanied by the hand sign for more.
Mister ate all of the Better Oats™ and pushed his bowl toward me. “Mo, pees.” We have a winner.
So, I pushed the bowl of Quaker™ to him. He took a bite. He looked at me. He pushed the bowl to me, and said, “Mo Mommy’s moatmeal.”
“You want more of Mommy’s?” I asked. He nodded yes. I ate the Quaker™. He ate another pack of Better Oats™.
His favorite, by far, is the Oat Heads™ Berry Blast.
I like all of them.
Better Oats varieties are available at grocery stores nationwide. Suggested retail price is $1.25 to $1.99 per box. There are five packs in each box, so they fit better in your pantry. The price is comparable to the competitors, if you buy two boxes of Better Oats™ to one of the competitor’s 10 pouch boxes which runs $3-$4 per box.
Overall, I think the Better Oats™ brand is a very good alternative to the everyday variety. I love that it has the flax in every serving, something that I have been wanting to add more of to my diet. I don’t know that we will switch over completely, as Mister still loves his Quaker™, too. But I can say that I will be buying the Lavish™ Dark Chocolate variety for myself.
Visit Better Oats™ today, and look at what they have to offer. I’m certain one of the 34 varieties is sure to tempt your fancy.
