Entertaining with Aldi

AldiI have shopped Aldi, and known it’s budget friendliness, all of my adult life, and can recall my Mom shopping at Aldi when I was a kid.  In fact, I remember when Aldi put in the quarter carts!  I generally spend about $75 each week at Aldi, and only go to the big box grocery stores when I can’t find something at Aldi.  On a recent trip to Aldi, I picked up the things I would need for a special dinner, along with my typical groceries.

Here’s a partial list of the items I purchased:

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Celery
  • Apples
  • Red Grapes
  • 1 pound of Bacon
  • Two dozen Golden eggs
  • Bake House Jumbo Cinnamon Rolls
  • Four gallons Friendly Farms Skim Milk
  • Friendly Farms Greek yogurt
  • Savoritz Round Crackers
  • Savoritz Entertainment Cracker Assortment
  • Southern Grove Dried Cranberries
  • Fit & Active neufchatel cheese
  • Happy Farms Mild Cheddar Cheese Slices
  • Happy Farms String Cheese
  • Belmont Premium Cheesecake Sampler
  • Berryhill Blackberry Fruit Spread
  • Chaza Moscato
  • Kirkwood Frozen Chicken Breasts
  • Sea Queen Frozen Salmon Fillets
  • Fit & Active Deli lunch meat

(Yes, we really go through about four gallons of milk a week)

My trip total was just over $100, but considering I added the cheesecake sampler, wine, and several other items, I was pleased.

I wanted to make a special dinner for Hubs, to show him how much I appreciate him.  I decided to go with a bacon wrapped salmon fillet, complimented by chai spiced sweet potatoes, broccoli, and Chaza Moscato wine.

Oh My Yum!

The bacon wrapped salmon fillets- which I seasoned with garlic, mustard seed, salt, and pepper- were delicious.  The bacon kept the salmon moist and tender.  The chai spiced sweet potatoes were also yummy.  In fact, I think I am adding those to my Christmas dinner list.  And the wine?  It was light, and slightly sweet (thanks to the pear, apricot, and sweet peach flavors), and was the perfect compliment to both the salmon and to the cheesecake that we had for dessert.  As a wine novice, I was impressed that it complimented the main course and the dessert so well.

Because I shop Aldi every week, I save money on groceries every week.  It truly is my stock up store.

Do you shop Aldi?  If not, I want to challenge you to shop ALDI for your next grocery run and compare your savings, then let me know how much you saved compared to your traditional grocery store.  Be sure to check out their award winning wine selections and winter seasonal items!  Aldi prices are great for everyday grocery needs and for entertaining on a budget!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of ALDI and received a gift certificate to facilitate my review.  All opinions expressed are my own, and I would have shopped Aldi this week anyway!
