Hi. I’m Virginia. I am a Christian, wife, mother of two, homemaker, and yes… That Bald Chick.
Hubs and I have two children, whom I affectionately call Mister and Sister on this site. Hubs is referred to as Hubs, That Tech Geek, or Mr. Higgins.
While I am the sole owner and most frequent author of That Bald Chick, Hubs may occasionally put his two cents in. When he does, trust me, you will want to listen.
I am affected by a rare skin disorder, Hay Wells Syndrome of the Ectodermal Dysplasias (learn more at http://nfed.org).
Hay Wells Syndrome (HWS), also known as anklyloblepharon-ectodermal dysplasia-cleft lip and palate syndrome (AEC) is one of several ectodermal dysplasias (ED) syndromes that affects structures that arise from the ectoderm as well as structures that do not. Considered a complex syndrome, HWS can affect hair, skin, teeth, nails, sweat glands, as well as other structures. HWS is typically classified by cleft lip and palatte as well as fusion of the upper and lower eye lids at birth.
HWS is a congenital birth defect, meaning it is present at birth, and is a dominant genetic trait.
As such, I am a life long baldie. And proud of it. You can not even begin to imagine the number of times I have overheard someone describe me as a child as “that bald girl” and now as “that bald chick.”
Growing up different certainly posed some challenges. However, my Mom taught me a few life lessons that I cherish and will share with you…
- People ridicule that which they do not understand; make them understand, and they will not ridicule.
- There is a unique purpose in your differences… it is up to you to find them.
- You are only as limited as you allow yourself to be.
- People will remember what you say because they will remember how you look. Make the impression worthwhile.
The ability to make a lasting impression on someone, on the basis of appearance, is a gift indeed.
When I was contemplating names for my new site That Bald Chick just fit.
I enjoy reading, scrapbooking (digital and traditional), flower gardening, and blogging. I also do custom photocards and invitations.
I love doing product reviews and giveaways.
So, grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and let’s chat awhile.
