This last weekend, my Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law (Dick and Barb) celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary (Did you know that the 40th anniversary is the “Ruby Anniversary?”). Hubs and his sister, Cheri, had been planning a surprise anniversary party for them for over six months. Dick and Barb typically attend a small Bible study group on Friday evenings, and Hubs had arranged with Yvonne, the group hostess, to have the surprise party at her home at the same time their Bible study group would typically meet. He drove down early on Friday, so he and Cheri could set up for the party.
They set up the 40th anniversary party supplies, using the Stafford Ruby collection from DiscountPartySupplies.com, with the cake, strung crepe paper, and hung a 40th Anniversary banner. He made BLT dip ahead of time and took it with him, and we stuffed little drawstring bags with Hershey kisses. Cheri ordered the cake from HyVee and picked up an assortment of crackers to serve with the dip.
He had sent invitations to friends and family, and was over joyed when family from Indiana replied that they would be coming. As you can see, Dick and Barb were both surprised and overjoyed to see friends and family, as well.
After visiting with friends and family, Dick and Barb cut the cake together, just as they had 40 years prior (although I am fairly certain that first cake wasn’t German Chocolate).
It’s easy to see why their marriage has lasted so long…
Their marriage serves as a wonderful example to their children. Happy 40th Anniversary, Dick and Barb. I am so happy for you two, and to have you as a part of my life, and was so sad that I was unable to celebrate with you.
***We received a Stafford Ruby Standard Party Pack, Stafford Ruby Cups, and Stafford Ruby Plates from DiscountPartySupplies.com to facilitate this post. The 40th anniversary banner was purchased by us, and is also available from DiscountPartySupplies.com.***
