What’s worse than feeling ill on your anniversary? Having a kid that feels even worse than you do. That’s right, Mister and Sister both contracted the flu just before I went into the hospital for the sinusitis. Mister started it with running a fever on January 27th. Sister soon followed suit.
So, as I spent the majority of last week in the hospital, Hubs spent his time at home taking care of the flu-ridden kidlets. Poor guy! Fortunately for him, we have the VeraTemp Non-Contact Thermometer to make life a little easier!
So, why is a noncontact thermometer such a big deal? I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want to do with a sleeping sick (insert whiney) kid is touch him. The VeraTemp makes it easy to obtain an acurate temperature without touching said sleeping whiney sick kid, and because it has a backlit LED display, it is bright enough that you don’t have to turn the light on see the temperature. The display also changes colors according to the temperature. Red display for fever, orange display for low-grade, and green screen for normal.
It is super easy to use. Simply point the VeraTemp at the forehead from 2-3 inches away and press (then release) the scan button. You can also use it to check surface temps and room air temp by changing modes. It measures in Celsius or Fahrenheit, so you can use whichever you are most comfortable with. It would really be handy for checking bath water temp by aiming at the water and having it on the surface mode.
All of that, AND I don’t have to buy probe covers (which can be stinkin expensive) to use with it. SCORE!
Now, there are a few ways to obtain an INACCURATE temp with the VeraTemp. Those include holding it closer than the recommended 2-3 inches away, hair obscuring the skin, having it set on the wrong mode, taking temperature immediately after being outdoors or using heat/ice on a skin area. Sweat can also impede a correct temp, so if your kid is sweaty, wipe it off. Since my kid doesn’t sweat, that wasn’t an issue for us.
VeraTemp Non-Contact Thermometers are available for purchase online Amazon, Target, Walmart, and various other retailers. It is also available at Price Chopper, RiteAid, and Meijer.
I will be giving away a VeraTemp Non-Contact Thermometer in an upcoming Baby Shower Gift Guide next month, so keep your eyes open! In the meantime, stay healthy!
