I recently had the privilege of receiving The Narnia Code DVD, from from ENTERTAINMENT ONE, for review.
As I mentioned in Day 13 of the All About Me Meme, my all time favorite fictional series is The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. I was instantly sucked into the magical land of Narnia the first time I visited the pages of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and have since been fascinated with all things Narnia. I never tire of the parallelism between the pages of Narnia and those of my Bible. C.S. Lewis was a wordsmith, no doubt. His use of allusion to impart Biblical truth and theology is brilliant. In the years between my introduction to Narnia and now, I have read most of C.S. Lewis’ Books.
The Narnia Code begins with a mini-documentary about C.S. Lewis, which offers significant insight into the life of the man, from his childhood, and how he became a Christian. C.S. Lewis said of his own conversion to Christianity that he was “perhaps the most dejected and reluctant convert in all of England.”
About The Narnia Code (courtesy of http://www.narniacode.com)…
The Chronicles of Narnia series by C. S. Lewis has become one of the most globally beloved franchises in history. And yet, there are mysteries about the author and these seven stories that have fascinated scholars and fans for nearly half a century. Enter Michael Ward who takes us inside the pages of Lewis’ masterpieces and discovers a “secret imaginative key” - THE NARNIA CODE DVD.
Like a detective embroiled in an exclusive chase, Ward takes us on an illuminating adventure into medieval cosmology and spiritual symbolism. His absorbing conclusions reveal a new third layer of hidden delight that will forever change your love and appreciation for C. S. Lewis and the Narnia books.
The Narnia Code DVD was released to select Christian retailers on 11/23/2010 and will be released to all stores in early January 2011.
Following the mini-documentary, The Narnia Code, goes on to tell about the “secret key” to the Narnia books, as discovered by Michael Ward. According to Ward, the Narnia series can be viewed as having three layers. The first layer is the child like layer, that can be understood by a five year old. The second layer is the biblical parallel layer, which is “also quite obvious.” And then there is the secret third layer, as revealed in The Narnia Code.
I won’t ruin the secret for you, but I will say that it is not only plausible, but phenomenal. I will be re-reading the Narnia series in order to peel back the first two layers of writing and read the series for the this third layer. This DVD certainly gives me a new appreciation of C.S. Lewis as a literary genius. If you like C.S. Lewis, this DVD is a great movie to watch. If you like the Chronicles of Narnia, it is a must view.

Strangely enough, I have never seen the first one. This is the second one right? I honestly don’t watch a lot of TV or movies. I play it in the background but don’t listen or watch it. I didn’t want to lie or just go look a character up to answer your question. I am entering this because my teen daughter, who is 15, loves the books and movie as well. She had to read the book about the first movie in school I think. I’m not sure about all these details, I have terrible memory, but I know she talked about loving the book and movie for a long time. Thanks for this chance. I love doing things lately that make her actually like me. lol.
