Do you have a child that will be starting school this fall? If so, Is Your Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten? is a must read! We have a couple of years before we have to worry about kindergarten, as Mister is just two and a half. However, he and Sister both truly enjoyed reading about this silly bull.

This bovine tale describes the the fun filled first day of kindergarten for this shy bull.
From getting his first backpack, to bumbling with scissors, to balancing on tightrope, this calf learns that everyone is special in his own way and that being different from everyone else in school is A.O.K.
Written by Audrey Vernick, and illustrated by Daniel Jennewein, this witty tail tale is sure to boost confidence in the shyest of school age children, and reinforce the importance of learning to share and care.
The illustrations are simple and cute. Mister and Sister enjoyed the illustrations of the hoof painting, and Mister pointed to the buffalo and said, “That silly buffalo!” Mister especially enjoyed the pictures of the buffalo using scissors, since that is a skill we are working on currently.
The book touches on all the things that cause first day anxiety—fitting in, who to sit with at lunch, using scissors, following rules, and much more.
Is Your Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten is witty, playful, and charming. I am certain that it will be a favorite in our home for a long while. Especially considering Sister wanted to sleep with it. That silly Sister.

I visited the Harper Collins Kids website and one of the books that caught my attention was “Big Nate In A Class By Himself”. I think my granddaughter would enjoy that book.

I would like to win this book for my granddaughter. She is going into 1st grade. Last year she attended a ‘private’ kindergarten with only 11 kids in her class. This year she will be going to a large public school – no telling how many kids will be in her class. I think that some of the points discussed in Is Your Buffalo Ready For Kindergarten apply to her and would be very helpful, besides being a cute book to read. I’m sure that my grandson would also enjoy the book. He is not old enough for school yet, but wants to do everything that his sister does. When she and I are reading, he climbs into my lap to be a part of it too.
Teach Your Buffalo To Play Drums from Audrey Vernick will be available in Summer of 2011.

Balzer and Bray published the “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie”, “If You Give A Pig A Pancake”, “If You Give A Moose A Muffin” line of books. We have many of those books (purchased from Kohl’s Cares For Kids) and my granddaughter enjoys them. Another favorite book of hers that was published by Balzer and Bray is “Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day” by Jamie Lee Curtis (also purchased from Kohl’s Cares For Kids).
