Raise a bilingual child with Boca Beth

Having traveled to El Salvador three times on missions, I’ve long known I wanted Spanish to be a second language for my children.  I just didn’t know how I was going to teach them.  I didn’t start learning Spanish until I was in junior high school, and always wished I had started earlier.

While in Chicago at the Baby Show, I won a Boca Beth bilingual Spanish/English set for the kids.  Included in the set that I won were the My First Songs in Spanish music CD, the Mi Casa/My House bilingual education DVD, and the Boca Beth Bilingual Language Learning Activity Book.

ABOUT BOCA BETH

BETH BUTLER:
Founder of The
BOCA BETH Program

Beth Butler is a bilingual educator of young children and strives to create better communication within our increasingly diverse society. She is the founder of the internationally acclaimed BOCA BETH language learning series which has garnered various parenting awards including but not limited to the following: 2008 Editors’ Choice Award/Family Review Center, Learning Magazine 2007 Teachers’ Choice Award for the Family, Best Educational Product of the Year (2005 & 2006) –Parent to Parent/Adding Wisdom Award.
The BOCA BETH TV Program is now enjoyed via TV on The Education Channel in Tampa, Florida while her products have been listed on the US Department of Education’s linked site OELA (Office of English Language Acquisition) as a great resource for helping young children learn a second language.  Ms. Butler is actively involved with the White House Initiative for Education Excellence for Hispanics.

We’ve been watching the DVD for several weeks now, and the kids absolutely love it.  Their favorite part is the “Yo se los dias de la Semana” (I know the Days of the Week) song and the “Beso es un kiss” (Kiss is a Beso) song .  They frequently ask me to sing “Boca” and since these are the only songs I have memorized so far, they are what I sing.  They enjoy the motions that I do with the Days of the Week song, and the fact that they get kisses with Beso song.

They also enjoy coloring the pages from their “Boca Book.”  So, what do you do when you have one Boca Book and two kids?

Well, of course you go online and sign up for the Boca Beth newsletter, which gives you access to Free Bilingual Coloring/Activity pages, in addition to language cards and activity ideas.

Bringing Outdoor Movies Back- Part 1

Early this summer, perhaps it was even spring, my husband and I were chatting and somehow the topic of outdoor movies came up.  We both agreed it would be cool if we could watch movies in the backyard with the kids, and from time to time have people over to watch an outdoor movie.

Thus, my husband’s summer project was born.

He did a lot of research, and a lot of planning, and then started pulling out the soffit we just had installed last year…

to install braces for what would soon become outdoor speaker mounts…

Of course, he was able to put it all back.

Does anyone in your family adopt summer projects?

The Fragrance Collection by Glade- Review and Giveaway

Ah.  Nothing beats the smell of a great candle.  Don’t you agree?  A great candle can improve your mood as it permeates the atmosphere.

SC Johnson has just introduced a GREAT new scent in The Fragrance Collection by Glade, and thanks to the Family Review Network, I was able to review it.

image

The Fragrance Collection by Glade is available in a Reed Diffuser, 3-wick soy-based candle, and soy-based candle.

  • The Reed diffuser works continuously for lasting fragrance all day long. Includes 12 reeds and 1.62 fl. oz. of fragrance oil.
  • The 10 oz. 3-wick soy-based candle is made from soy-blend wax and comes in a beautiful boutique style glass jar. Burns up to 35 hours.
  • The 2 oz. soy-based candle is perfect for times when you want to indulge yourself a little. Burns up to 20 hours.

The Fragrance Collection is currently available in four scents.

I chose the Lemongrass & Citrus, which is new, because I thought it would go well in the kitchen.  As with many homes, the kitchen is a busy place in our home.  And I could use some aromatherapy in there at times.

The Fragrance Collection Candles come in a nice little jar with a silver-toned lid.  The candle label is a peel-able label, so it can easily be removed to add to the charm of the jar.

This is one little jar that will be re-appropriated to my craft area once the candle has burned out.

The candle is a 3-wick and the scent is very crisp and clean.  I can say that I really love this scent, and I plan to buy more.

Premier Penny Auction Site Debuts in St Louis

Stlouisbid.com is the Premier St. Louis Penny Auction site where you can bid on tickets, gift cards, electronics, music, and OH SO MUCH MORE for just pennies on the dollar!

imagejpeg953

Stlouisbid was founded in early 2010 by Scott James & Dave Shimchick (my brother).

image

Scott and Dave are working hard to bring items to stlouisbid.com that other auction sites do not offer.  For example, tickets for concerts and sporting events in St. Louis.  Club memberships.  Trips away from home.  You never know what you might find on stlouisbid.com.

How does the site work?  It’s pretty simple, actually.  You simply purchase bid packets, then use your bids on the items you would like to win.  If your bid is the last one standing when the timer runs out, you WIN!

For example, this 8 megapixel camera is currently being auctioned off…

image

That’s right, the current bid is 2 cents!  For a $119.00 camera!

Want to bid on it?  Simply click the hyper-linked title, and it will bring you to this screen…

image

The product description details the current bid, the time remaining on the auction, the bid history, and product description.

It also fully discloses what the taxes and shipping fees will be, as well as what your total savings will be at the current bid price.

image

If you decide you want to place your bid, you simply click the Bid button, and it will place your bid, adding one penny to the current bid.

image

Stlouisbid.com just auctioned a camera just like this one last week for 3 cents!

image

Stlouisbid.com just inked a contract with Z107.7

image

The contract will garner them advertising on SIX stations.

image

The phenomenal thing about that is the reach that it will have.

Fan Stlouisbid.com on Facebook and tell them that Virginia sent you!

So, get your bid packs now, and bid on St. Louis!

I’ve got my bid pack…

image

and I am about to change the bid on that camera!

Momsense by Anita Renfroe

A friend of mind just messaged me on Facebook and reminded me of Anita Renfroe‘s Momsense video…

I laugh out loud every time I hear this, and thought I would share it with you, in case you need to laugh to.

Have you seen her Wrinkled Ladies video?  Make sure you haven’t just taken a drink when you watch it, else you will have to clean your screen!

Hey Anita, when are you coming to St. Louis?
