Sarah McLachlan- Laws of Illusion Album Review

The Grammy® award winning singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan recently released her newest album, Laws of Illusion on June 15th.  After a seven year hiatis, this multi-platinum artist has proven that good things come to those who wait.

  • The album’s first single is Loving You is Easy… and in fact, loving Sarah McLachlan and her newest album are easy.
  • Sarah has had over 20 million career sales in her career, which spans more than two decades, and every single one of her albums has been certified gold, platinum, or multi-platinum!

Thanks to One2One Network, I had the awesome privilege of reviewing the Laws of Illusion album.

This album is definitely easy to listen to.  With a voice that is both supple and smooth, McLachlan does not disappoint with the beautiful ballads and artistic music composition.  My favorite song on the album is Loving You is Easy (Track 3).  It is beautiful.  I also enjoyed Awakenings and Bring on the Wonder.

TRACKLISTING
1. AWAKENINGS
2. ILLUSIONS OF BLISS
3. LOVING YOU IS EASY
4. CHANGES
5. FORGIVENESS
6. RIVERS OF LOVE
7. LOVE COME
8. OUT OF TUNE
9. HEARTBREAK
10. DON’T GIVE UP ON US
11. U WANT ME 2
12. BRING ON THE WONDER

Sarah’s return to the studio also marks the return of the historic all-female Lilith Fair Festival.  This festival was one of the highest grossing festivals in the world, between 1997 and 1999, with over two million fans attending and raising more than $10 MILLION dollars for national and local women’s charities.

Artists joining Sarah on the 2010 Lilith Fair bill to include:

Blige, Sheryl Crow, Erykah Badu, Ke$ha, Norah Jones, Sugarland, Heart, Miranda Lambert, Beth Orton, Brandi Carlile, Cat Power, Chantel Kreviazuk, Corinne Bailey Rae, Emmylou Harris, Gossip, Indigo Girls, Ingrid Michaelson, Jill Scott, Loretta Lynn, Metric, Sara Bareilles, Tegan and Sara and more!

Funky Monkey Snacks Review and Giveaway

Do you have trouble getting your kids to eat a variety of foods?  Like I sometimes do?  If our kids are what they eat, then mine are quickly becoming hotdogs and cheese.  But, recently, we had the opportunity to try Funky Monkey Snacks, and the kids love to see that little monkey come out at snack time!

image

About the product…

Funky Monkey Snacks were created to bring delicious healthy snacks to everyone.  There are a TON of delicious snacks on the market, but few that are delicious AND healthy.  Funky Monkey steps into the gap and combines the great taste of fresh fruit with the satisfying crunch of your favorite snack.  In doing so, they provide convenient full sized servings of fruit in a freeze dried package that will tickle your taste buds.

Funky Monkey Snacks are all natural and are gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy free, peanut and tree-nut free, and contain no added sugars, preservatives, flavors, or colors.  Using a proprietary method of freeze drying fruit, full slices of real fruit are used to make this crunchy snack with three servings of fruit in every ounce.

Funky Monkey Snacks are available in seven funky flavors…

  • Applemon™ (Freeze-Dried Apple and Organic Cinnamon)
  • Bananamon® (Freeze-Dried Organic Banana and Organic Cinnamon)
  • Carnaval Mix™ (Freeze-Dried Organic Banana, Organic Pineapple, Apple and
    Papaya)
  • JiveALime® (Freeze-Dried Organic Pineapple and Organic Lime Juice)
  • MangOJ™ (Freeze-Dried Mango and Orange Juice)
  • Pink Pineapple™ (Freeze-Dried Organic Pineapple and Guava)
  • Purple Funk® (Freeze-Dried Organic Banana and Organic Açai)

Funky Monkey Snacks are USDA certified organic and are kosher.

What I thought…

We received all seven flavors of Funky Monkey to sample.  The fruit does indeed pack a crunch.  My husband and kids absolutely loved the Funky Monkey Snacks.  I enjoyed them, as well.  My favorite flavor is the Purple Funk, which is freeze dried organic bananas with organic acai.  As you know acai is all the rage right now, and with good reason.  It is a YUMMY food packed with good for you stuff.  Mister really liked the Applemon (freeze dried apple and organic cinnamon) and Sister really liked the MangOJ (freeze dried mango and orange juice).

What I would change…

The Funky Monkey Snacks are delicious as they are.  I would love to see additional flavors added to their line.

Partease Cosmopolitan Monogrammed Cosmetic Travel Bag Review and Giveaway

prizeypick

My brother just got married on June 19th.  His bride, Missy, is a really sweet gal, so I wanted to be able to do something nice for her.

I received the opportunity to review an item from Partease, an online retailer specializing in wedding favors, bridal shower favors, personalized party favors, and more.  Partease.com helps you spell parties with ease!

There are MANY gorgeous items on the Partease site, including:

These Mod Dots Black and White Photo Coaster Favors…

Black and White Dot Photo Coasters

These Cherry Blossom Silk Fans…

Cherry Blossom Silk Fans

And these Cosmopolitan Monogrammed 5-piece Manicure Sets.

The Cosmopolitan Monogrammed 5 Piece Manicure Set

After browsing the site for quite a while, I chose The Cosmopolitan Monogrammed Cosmetic Travel Bag for review.

Monogrammed Cosmetic Bag

The bag measures approximately 8.5″ long by 5.75″ tall and 5″ deep. It is black polyester with pink satin piping and criss-cross embroidery.  The zipper goes almost all the way around the bag, making it easy to pack full of things.  The embroidered monogram letter actually snaps in place, so it can easily be removed and a different one applied.  I got the letter “S” for Missy’s, since her new last name will begin with an “S.”

What I thought…

This bag is super cute.  I decided to make a “bridal emergency kit” for Missy for the BIG day.  I included a cosmetic bag, toiletries, two-sided tape, tooth pick floss, hand wipes, Shout wipes, toothpaste, nail clippers, a hairbrush, and much much more.  The bag held it all AND zipped closed easily!  It is well constructed, the seams are finished, and no fraying was noted.  The snap for the monogram was sturdy and held the monogram in place well.

IMG_5332IMG_5334

Missy absolutely LOVED the “bridal emergency kit” and the bag!

What I would change…

I’ve gone back and forth about whether or not I would change the fact that the monogram can be removed.  On the one hand, it makes it nice if you don’t want to have the monogram there all the time.  On the other hand, what if it fell off when traveling or something.  But, even if it did fall off, it could easily be replaced.

How I rate it:

Mommy Must Haves- AllerMates Allergy Accessories

Did you know that allergic disorders rank first among children’s chronic diseases and that as much as 8% of children under the age of 5 have a serious food allergy?  The rate of peanut allergies actually doubled between 1997 and 2001.

Parents of children with allergies know that being proactive in allergen avoidance is key to maintaining their child’s health.  We also know how easy it is for allergens to be introduced accidentally.

Mister has a peanut allergy.  His peanut allergy first presented when he was about 16 months old.  We’d had peanut butter crackers, pear slices, and cheese as a bedtime snack, and were getting ready to brush our teeth.  Then I noticed that he had a welt on his neck.  Because he has reactive skin, I asked my husband if he had fallen while I was out of the room.  He said no.  I was about to go get some ointment for the welt, thinking it was from bumping into something, when I noted that he had another faint welt just below the collar of his shirt.  I pulled his shirt off and saw that he had five big ugly hives on his neck and torso. I grabbed the phone and called the doctor’s exchange, since it was after hours.  The nurse on call said that it could be an hour before the doctor returned call.  I was concerned that his condition would worsen, so I decided to take him to the emergency room.

The ER that I took him to is less than ten minutes from our home.  As I drove, I kept glancing back at him, although I could tell by his lusty cry that his airway was not impaired.

When we arrived at the ER, he was literally covered from head to toe in angry red hives.  His hives were so bad, that when I entered the ER, the staff thought that he had been burned.  We were rushed back to a treatment room and I rattled off his lengthy medical history as we walked.  In the treatment room, he was given IV steroids, an epinephrine injection, and IV antihistamine.  Shortly thereafter, we were transferred to the Children’s hospital for overnight monitoring.

Subsequent testing revealed that his allergy was in fact to peanuts.   We were instructed to avoid peanuts and to avoid tree nuts, as well, as they are often processed on the same equipment. Of course the allergist recommended an allergy bracelet, but at the time I couldn’t find a kid friendly one.  Plus, I thought, he is rarely out of my sight, so what was the worst that could happen?

Recently, during the fellowship hour at our church, Mister was mingling with people as I tended to Sister.  I happened to glance up as a well meaning gentleman offered Mister a piece of his bagel.  I fairly flew across the few feet that separated our tables and said rather loudly, “he can’t have that.”  The poor guy was shocked, to say the least.  The bagel that he had offered Mister had nuts in it.

It was then that I realized that the “worst that could happen” could be potentially serious.

About the product…

Then I heard about AllerMates.  The AllerMates brand was developed as a fun solution to an important problem.  AllerMates produces cool and kid friendly allergy awareness products, including bracelets and necklaces.

meettheallermates

AllerMates currently has products for the following allergies…

  • Peanuts
  • Eggs
  • Dairy
  • Fish
  • Soy
  • Tree Nuts
  • Shellfish
  • Wheat gluten

AllerMates will soon be introducing allergy awareness products for pollen, sesame, penicillin, and latex.  They will also be expanding their line of products to include an adjustable multi-allergy bands, t-shirts, lunch bags, epi-pen cases, backpacks, posters, trading cards, and much much more.

I was excited when AllerMates agreed to a review. I specifically requested the AllerMates Peanut Allergy Bracelet.  Since the bracelet is cute, I thought I might actually be able to get Mister to wear it.

What I thought…

I received the  Peanut Allergy Wristband “P. Nutty” allergy band and dog tag with necklace cord to review.  The AllerMates allergy wristband is brightly colored, hypoallergenic, latex free, and has adjustable snaps.  We adjusted the bracelet to the smallest setting and tried it on Mister.

IMG_5253IMG_5251IMG_5249

As you can see, Mister is quite proud to sport P.Nutty. Mister enjoys wearing his AllerMates bracelet, but does not want to wear it all the time.  I do try to get him to wear it when we are out, so that the bracelet can speak for me if I am not right with him.  I know that I cannot always be there to be my son’s advocate.  But, with the help of AllerMates bright orange P.Nutty bracelet, and due diligence on my part, I pray that we can avoid accidental allergen exposure.

Because Mister is so young, we haven’t let him use the cord necklace and P.Nutty tag yet (it’s not recommended for children under 3).  I have, however, examined it and it is also of quality construction.  What I love about the tag is the little sad peanut character.  It is actually raised from the brushed aluminum tag, and is seriously cute.

What I would change…

The only thing I would change about the AllerMates wrist band would be the ability to put multiple allergies on one band, and it would seem that the powers that be at AllerMates heard my subliminal messages, because they have one in the works.

I am glad to see that a Penicillin allergy bracelet is due to be released, and would love to see other common medication allergies added *i.e. Sulfa, Erythromycin, etc.

It would also be phenomenal if AllerMates developed a line of medical awareness bracelets for conditions like seizures, juvenile diabetes, and so forth.  Since Mister is unable to sweat, I would love a fire engine red bracelet with a blue water drop character and something to the effect of “Unable to Sweat” or “Heat Intolerant” as the wording.

I can’t wait for the lunch bags to be available, as I will definitely be adding that to my Mommy Must Haves!
